Re: Ana Konjuh

Eddie Herr MD is out and, as expected, Ana is the #7 seed. Here's her quarter of the draw. She has an easy path to R3. It gets hairy after that.

(7)Ana Konjuh (CRO) vs. (WC)Jessica Ho (USA)
Qualifier vs. Qualifier
Jazzi Plews (GBR) vs. Chiara Grimm (SUI)
(9)Christina Makarova (USA) vs. Aldila Sutjiadi (INA)

(15)Domenica Gonzalez (ECU) vs. Stephanie Mariel Petit (ARG)
Jamie Loeb (USA) vs. Qualifier
Maria Marfutina (RUS) vs. Rebecca Peterson (SWE)
(4)Francoise Abanda (CAN) vs. Katrine Isabel Steffensen (USA)

Re: Ana Konjuh

Ana entered the WTA rankings this week for the first time

She's at #869

That makes her the second-youngest player in the rankings, behind Black, who's at 905.

Also, she's the eighth-highest-ranked player born after 1996. She's behind Abanda, Bencic, Podoroska, Kudermetova, Ostapenko, Jorovic and Cabrera--but Ana's ranking comes from only 3 tournaments, compared to 4-8 for the others (except for Kudermetova, who's also at 3).

Ana's draw is opening up nicely. Of the other three seeds in her quarter, two--Makarova and Gonzalez--lost in R1.

Also, doubles MD is out and Ana and Mertens (combined ranking: 36) are the #2 seeds. In R1 they play CHIRICO / DOYLE (combined ranking: 290).

Re: Ana Konjuh

Apart from the obviously awkward first set of singles, everything seems to be going according to plan. She needs QF of singles or SF of doubles to make a new result that would count towards her ranking, which won't be easy. She could really use a good run in juniors now, to finish the year in top 10 - she is already very close to that in terms of points, but of course it all depends on other players just as much.

Good luck Ana!
