It is not so weird...
Can I ask one question.. I see the last names change by sex; just like in Russian/Belarussian/Ukrainian/Macedonian etc. and I see that you add the female suffix to foreign surnames aswell -- Williamsova etc. But why was Maria Sharapova's last name in the Prague exhibition written - Sharapovova? Afterall, her name is already in a feminine version...
Thank you very much for answering!

I see Tomas has gotten over his dislike for Nicole? I remember a few years back Nicole refused to play Fed cup and Tomas was asked about her status as a Czech player and he did the inverted commas signal and said "She's Czech" but she lives in America in a sarcastic tone.

This. The DC is a good example. Talking big before the final but then hardly winning against "the weak point" Almagro and getting straight-setted by Ferrer when his victory would have sealed their title.

Can't say anything about Macedonian language, but the last name change is not always the case in the other three ones. There are certain suffixes, like -ova -aya -a, which are being changed. So, for instance, Kirilenko or Azarenka or Tsurenko last names won't be changed by sex.

Well, this is something that is actually criticized by many czech people. From a linguistic point of view, the reason to use Šarapovová (Sharapovova would have been a "czenglish" hybrid)--and not just Šarapová--is that her father's name is Šarapov (not Šarap or Šarapa). It might be the case that in Russia, it is (almost) always the case that -ova female suffix means that her father/husband has got -ov suffix, but this cultural particularity is not (for a good reason) encoded in the linguistic rule concerning female suffixes.
By the way even in czech language, it can happen that there is no suffix change in a female surname: for instance, if the corresponding male name looks like Jírů, Matějů etc. (Or if it is of a foreign origin.) And last but not least: if the corresponding male version happens to be an adjective, the female version is treated as such, e.g. Hradecký ==> Hradecká; so no -ová suffix here.

Lol, yes, Šarapovova is basically the same thing as Jankovićeva in Serbian (or Jankovičova in Czech and Slovak), the only difference is that we have -ić in surnames, so it's not Jankovova. Although we would say Jankovljeva in that case to avoid the comical outcome like "Čehovova puška" or something like that.
