Most shocking losses this year?
Even the top players have been vulnerable sometimes . Sometimes it's the scorelines rather than results. For me personally the top ones are:
Razzano def. S. Williams 4-6, 7-6, 6-3 (French Open 1R)
Robson def. Clijsters 7-6, 7-6 (US Open 2R)
Hogenkamp def. Goerges 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 (Linz)
Cirstea def. Stosur 6-3 7-6 (Australian Open 1R)
Oudin def. Jankovic 6-4 6-2 (Birmingham F)
Wozniacki def. S. Williams 6-4 6-4 (Miami QF)
Vinci def. Ivanovic 6-0 6-0 (Montreal 2R)
Errani def. Stosur 7-5 1-6 6-3 (French Open SF)
Kuznetsova def. A. Radwanska 6-1 6-2 (French Open 3R)
Chang def. Stosur 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (Osaka SF)

Re: Most shocking losses this year?
Razzano defeat Williams for sure. Serena was in top form and Virginie wasn't (as her following results showed).
Miami was not that surprising, Serena wasn't that good at the beginning of the year, and of course, Caroline is (was) a top player.

Re: Most shocking losses this year?
Robson over Clijsters was most shocking for me. Never thought Kim would end her career in that way...

Re: Most shocking losses this year?
Vinci def. Ivanovic 6-0 6-0 (Montreal 2R)
Kuznetsova def. A. Radwanska 6-1 6-2 (French Open 3R)
These two are actually not shocking at all.
Ivanovic was playing awful throughout these 2-3 years.
But if you say for double bagels, it was surprising.
Kuznetsova has been dominated against Aga, so nothing shocking at all.

Exactly. I put in the OP that sometimes the results aren't that shocking but the scorelines are .
And Radwanska's really improved her results the last year and a half. Sveta, not so much .

Re: Most shocking losses this year?
Biggest upset:
Razzano d. Williams
I also thought (even though she was only a part-timer) that
Robson d. Clijsters
was pretty shocking
Vika and Masha didn't really have any shocking losses to lower ranked players I don't think

Re: Most shocking losses this year?
Sam losing to Kai-Chen Chang in Osaka was more shocking than her losing to Cirstea and Errani imo
