Seriously I will never understand that. People assume that just because she's serious on court and doesn't have a lot of tennis friends that she's a cold bitch. Bitch she maybe, but def not cold.

I think it has more to do with the fact that she is mentally tough. For example, Borg never showed any facial expression when he was on the court thus everyone said he was mentally tough. So since then commentators have related toughness with facial expression which definitely isn't Maria's case.
She often shows what she feels, but doesn't let that affect her.
