Why is Bartoli already listed as the second alternate at the YEC when she is only 400 points ahead of Caroline in the race and there are 470 points up for grabs in Moscow? If Caro wins the title and Marion loses her first match shouldn't Caro be the second alternate?

That's a good question,and the answer is probably something like Caro's losing some points from last year.She won a match at YEC and that would come off the books before THIS year's YEC began,so perhaps that's what accounts for the points discrepancy...not 100% sure,though

Ending a year within top 10 would be nice but right now it's more important for Caroline to win titles. The ranking will then take care of itself. |

Thank you, Jorn .. so basically, Caro never had any chance (post China) of making it to YEC even as 2nd alt .. I wonder, if she knew herself, as she sounded like it wasn't all all over yet.

But on her website they don't yet have added she plays in Sofia... so we'll see...

Yeah, this is a chance to add a title or 2, and a clump of points she'll have all next season. Without having Vika, Serena, Maria, Petra, Aga, Kerber, in either draw. Plus no Goerges or Paszek.
Its a great opportunity right now. And if she cant do well now, then she will have #11, where she can play more Intls in 2013.
So it works out good for her either way.

I cannot and will not acknowledge, the purpose of a non-top 10 YE slot is to play more International tournaments.
It gives a smidgen more flexibility in her schedule, what both Premier and International tournaments are concerned, but that aside, I will be immensely surprised and disappointed, if Caro's 2013 schedule differs much from 2012, 2011, 2010 ..

Have to be realistic. 25 tournaments since any final besides 2 Intls. So if she doesnt get far now, whats wrong with playing more Intls? Its her best chance to get into a rhythm, win a lot of matches.
Plus she might be better off if she has more say in her schedule.
Of course it would be better if she wins these 2 titles, then makes a great run in Melbourne.
