Caroline didnt overplay this year. She went 2 months (late May to late july) without winning a single match.
She just hasnt been good enough this year. 0-5 vs Radwanska & Kerber, and she's lost to Begu, Mchale, Pavlyunchenkova, Safarova, Pazsek, Kanepi, Ivanovic..
Going into the Intl she won, Korea, she had lost 10 of 22 matches. Thats over about 4 months

Not everyone can be as consistent about mailing it in at qualifying for the YEC as say, Lena D.

Ironically, iirc, in 2009 when she lost due to retiring, she had only gotten OUT of RR due to a retirment(Azarenka)
