Oaky, so not SO new .....
Was just looking at ages of top sixteen, noting that 25 used to be an age at which even the average 'top' player retired. Players in red born AFTER BEFORE 1987.

19/04/87 02 Sharapova, Maria
26/09/81 03 Williams, Serena
06/03/89 04 Radwanska, Agnieszka
08/03/90 05 Kvitova, Petra
08/01/88 06 Kerber, Angelique
26/02/82 07 Li, Na
29/04/87 08 Errani, Sara
30/03/84 09 Stosur ...... 4400
02/10/84 10 Bartoli ..... 4010
11/07/90 11 Wozniacki ... 3585
06/11/87 12 Ivanovic..... 3035
06/05/89 13 Cibulkova ... 2925
08/06/82 14 Petro........ 2845

Re: The New Jacks are taking over!
Other than a few rare exceptions of burn-out and injury (Austin, Hingis, Henin), when was 25 the average retirement age? Court, Evert, Navratilova, Graf, Seles, Venus, Serena...

ONE of us is/was obviously overtired and can't think straight, but I don't 'think' it was you.
I'll try and make a correction.

Re: The New Jacks are taking over!
Using the same rules (though 25 doesnt really mean young to me), this was the situation a year ago (Oct 10th rankings)
11/07/90 01 Wozniacki, Caroline
19/04/87 02 Sharapova, Maria
31/07/89 03 Azarenka, Victoria
08/03/90 04 Kvitova, Petra
07/09/84 05 Zvonareva, Vera
30/03/84 06 Stosur, Sam
26/02/82 07 Li, Na
06/03/89 08 Radwanska, Agnieszka
09/09/87 09 Petkovic, Andrea
08/06/83 10 Clijsters, Kim
02/10/84 11 Bartoli, Marion
23/06/80 12 Schiavone, Francesca
28/02/85 13 Jankovic, Jelena
26/09/81 14 Williams, Serena
03/07/91 15 Pavlyuchenkova, Anastasia
08/01/86 16 Shuai, Peng
And two years ago, October 11th rankings (if this helps make your case).
11/07/90 01 Wozniacki, Caroline
26/09/81 02 Williams, Serena
07/09/84 03 Zvonareva, Vera
17/06/80 04 Williams Venus
08/06/83 05 Clijsters, Kim
23/06/80 06 Schiavone, Francesca

It doesn't. As hingisGOAT pointed out, 25 has "never" been the age at which most top players retired. I guess top can mean anything - so let's say top 25.

Re: The New Jacks are taking over!
There are many ways to view these stats. One thing is that there were the same number of 25+ players in the top-16 in 2002 and 1982 as there are now.
