I think you missed the point. Regardless of the performance, Maria was guaranteed a Silver Medal that day regardless if she defecated on court. Her getting a Silver medal that day doesn't suddenly nullify that it was a bad performance. It's not like they can revoke medals for bad performances....

Maria didn't play well in that match and it wasn't her worst performance because:
- Serena was unplayable, she was destroying everyone in that tournament. There was not much Maria could do.
- There's no shame in losing to a legend like Serena. I'd take 10 double bagels from Serena than any lost match to pretenders like Wozniacki, Kvitova...
- Trolls who diss her should ask themselves how their faves fared at the Olympics. Maria won the Silver Medal which many of them could only dream of.
