Re: Daria Gavrilova the new russian generation

(5)Daria Gavrilova (RUS) v Arina Rodionova (RUS)
(wc)Elizaveta Kulichkova (RUS) v Q
Ksenia Lykina (RUS) v (wc)Polina Novoselova (RUS)
(3)Valeria Solovieva (RUS) v Tara Moore (GBR)

Daria back home in Russia for $50k Kazan tournament. She's the fifth seed, and faces a tricky R1 agianst Rodionova the lesser, but has a nice section of the draw.

Re: Daria Gavrilova the new russian generation

Blew five match points and lost to Rodionova

Daria didn't enter US Open, even though she had a decent chance of getting into Qualies as an alt. The only consolation is that she didn't enter Juniors either, so at the very least, she's finally retired from Junior tennis!

In Tashkent qualies, but won't be for long, unless Olga's in a giving mood:

(1)Olga Puchkova (RUS) v Daria Gavrilova (RUS)
Polina Pekhova (BLR) v Valeria Solovieva (RUS)
(wc)Mayya Katsitadze (RUS) v Ekaterina Yashina (RUS)
Paula Kania (POL) v (8)Ekaterina Bychkova (RUS)

Dasha seriously has some bad luck. Get top form Olga in Tashkent qualies is the worst draw possible.

Re: Daria Gavrilova the new russian generation

Wondered if she'd be playing one of the WTA qualies this week. Her name isn't down for any ITF's for a while. Should beat Takao, but she'll have a hard time getting out of that little group.

Re: Daria Gavrilova the new russian generation

Eugenie it is. Kind of feel like Bouchard is the more talented of the two, but who knows.

Not totally sure why Daria seems to have adopted this recent trend of mostly playing lower level WTA event qualies. She might scrape through a round here and there, but she's not really getting much of anything from these events. At least on the ITF tour, wins means valuable experience, and she also has a decent chance of making the later stages at some of the events.

Her team is giving her bad advice, probably. She was a star in juniors, and maybe expects to automatically be a star at the WTA level

Anyway, went three sets against Eugenie, so at least she's making a bit of inroad. Score: 64 16 46.

Daria wins 6-2 3-6 6-4, and now probably gets to be Puchkova bait again! Result!
