Caroline is not in the best position though to be an alt, since she is behind (Stosur/Marion) already, and they are playing the same events as her. Na is virtually a lock for YEC.

Aga's still in good enough shape to beat up scrubs. Petra Kvitova on the other hand.

the BYES in the YEC will be Sara and Petra 
imagine they are in the same group with Vika & Aga

Petra loses to scrubs more often than the rest of top players but she usually steps it up against the top players. I would favor her in a match against Aga and Vika, especially indoors, her playground.

We could've Sharapova, Radwanska, Kerber and Errani in one group and Azarenka, Serena, Kvitova and Li in the other one.

How do they separate them into the two groups? Is it completely random or is it based on ranking?

She has a very bad record against top 20 players this year. Of course in general she plays better against Radwanska and Azarenka, cause getting to them means that she is in some sort of good form. She doesn´t get to Vika or Aga, if she is playing like s***. Then she is losing to CSN and Martic.
