She said that China Open is her last tournament before YEC.
It is reasonable for she to apply for a WC in Moscow, if available, to win one more match(+120) to assure a spot in YEC, in case that she loses in the Beijing QF and Bartoli wins Beijing.
But she may skip Moscow anyway, even if Bartoli wins Beijing.

Marion won't win Beijing 
I mean, I just don't see her defeating Vika and even if she does she is the huge underdog against all 4 potential opponents in the FINAL 
what is the Race now for the #9 spot ... that is more interesting in case of a withdraw from Serena

Serena has an outstanding record, which surprised me a bit by the amount
If Li qualifies Serena will be 35-5 and if Bartoli does Serena is 33-5 against the rest of the field.

Stosur is confirmed as one of the alternate.
Bartoli will be an alternate if she beat Suarez Navaro, she will have 3740 pts(right now 3540). Wozniacki has 3340 pts now (3685 pts if she wins Moscow ). If Bartoli loses to Suarez Navaro, she will have to reach Moscow final if Wozniacki wins Moscow

because Sam already lost in China Open and therefore don't have chance to gain many more points
Na IS safe ... there is no way Marion wins both Beijing & Moscow

Cos she can't overtake Li Na even with 470 Moscow & 280 Osaka. You don't count all your pts but only best 16.

The groups will definitely be interesting.
If Serena doesn't want to play, the event loses some steam though.
