IMO, there should be no WCs in the first place  Just let there be 8 qualifiers instead of 6+2 randoms.

Anyway, since they want to hand out those, Cibulkova would be a stronger case than Kirilenko  . Similar seasons, except Cibulkova has a title.

Wozniacki's case is kind of interesting. If I understand the rules correctly she can choose not to play Sofia should she be an alternate (or qualifier) in Istanbul. Otherwise she has to play it, or she'll get a 0 in her ranking.

I´m shocked. With Wozniacki now a direct entry, Ivanovic playing Fed Cup they went to the next best looking girl in the rankings for the 2nd wildcard.

But it's not like Kirilenko's appeal is only her look, she's had an incredible season, although she sucks recently, overall it is not just "let's go for the hottest chick" decision made by the organizer, it is reasonable also. Pironkova is Bulgarian so it is also reasonable to choose her.
Cibulkova may be a better choice but their seasons are almost equal in term of quality. But yeah, Kirilenko may be more mainstreamed because of her looks.

I don't know why they give WC anyway. Shouldn't it go to players who have won a title or who just barely were not able to qualify for Istanbul?

Indeed, among the players who haven't won an International, Kirilenko was the best choice for Sofia. Certainly, she deserves this wild card a lot more than Kimiko or Pironkova, who received it because of their nationality or ethnicity.
The whole concept is ludicrous, with the attribution of WC and the fact that only Internationals are taking into consideration, while some players could have win a Premier 5 or intermediate tournaments and beeing exluded. That being said, if they are to assign WC, Kirilenko was the most logical choice in terms of achievement this year. I only hope she'll be healthy.

This tournament has always been a ridiculous idea, but the most ridiculous aspect of it has to be the two wildcards. Nothing against Kirilenko, but If Su-Wei misses out after winning TWO international tournaments...

... some kind of YEC.
so whats the point of giving WCs for such a competition. 
Imagine if Cagla Buyukakcay (?) receives WC for Istanbul YEC every year.
So now this makes whole tournament looks like a joke. |

Kirilenko recently sucks because she was injured. She had to retire because of a back injury at 1-1 1st set at R1 Seoul, then she also had to withdraw from Tokyo. She just came back to action for Peking, but apparently still wasn't at 100 %.
So as many already wrote here, let's hope she will be healthy for Sofia. Then she can be a serious contender for the title there
