I've said it before and I'll say it again: beating Venus in Miami 2002 was a career-changer for Serena. I think by beating Venus so convincingly she realized that she was in fact a world beater and up to that point was wasting her talent.

Azarenka has to have had one of the most dramatic improvements in mental strength that the game has ever seen. The way she was so gritty in her last 3 matches at the US Open, you NEVER would've thought it was the same player who had those legendary meltdowns against Wozniacki and Radwanska at the YEC in 2009.

Henin is a great example. She choked all day every day.
Then during 2003 clay season, Henin put on 20lbs in literally the blink of an eye. Gave her more confidence, mentally very tough from that moment forward.

No..it was her victory over Capriati in Scottdale that changed her career around
