Re: The Danes are coming - Danish juniors thread

A pleasure And thanks for reading along. It was somewhat tougher today:

Slovakia - Denmark 3-0 (scores)

Expected loss. The two Slovakian singles have been ranked #1 & #2 in the TE rankings (Simone's present rank is #16, and her highest ever is #9)! Simone retired (don't know the reason), and there were some changes in the Danish team. Denmark is playing against France tomorrow for the 3rd place in the group. Still a pretty good result for Denmark.

Re: The Danes are coming - Danish juniors thread

The Danish U14 girls beat France 2-1 at the Europe Team Championships. Denmark became 3rd in the group (among 8 teams), which is much better than expected, as Denmark wasn't among the four seeded nations. The doubles was decisive once again. Scores here. Well done!

Re: The Danes are coming - Danish juniors thread

At the U14 Championships in France (more photos at Tennis Europe):

From Left: Emilie Håkansson, Simone Alipieva, and Ida Emilie Krause.

Brief news: Emilie Francati lost 1st round in Germany, and Julie Noe lost 1st round in The Czech Republic. Julie, however, has reached the doubles quarter finals (probably playing QF today). Somewhat disappointing results, and so far in 2012 Emilie has not shown much of the awesomeness that made her junior of the year in 2011. But I'm still optimistic

Re: The Danes are coming - Danish juniors thread

Kronborg Open, Danish GP tournament

QF
Kathrine Berge def. Josephine Visler 6-3 6-1
Ulrikke Høyer def. Anna Signe Rasmussen 6-1 6-3
Emma Rønholt def. Malene Stripp 6-2 6-2
Mai Grage def. Frederikke Svarre 6-0 6-0

Very impressive scorelines by by Emma and Ulrikke against some quite good players. Emma has beaten a few very good player lately, as I've mentioned before, but I think this was her first win against Malene (Malene leading 4-0 H2H against Emma the last 12 months)! Unfortunately, lots of players have withdrawn or never entered this tournament, like Barbat (who was on the initial entry list as 1st seed), Melsted, Ditlev, Francati, and Noe. Therefore the Kronborg Open is a bit weak this year.

That's not a bad showing from Emma? Did you manage to watch any of the matches?

Unfortunately no. It was indeed a very good scoreline for Emma - her best result against Mai Grage to date. Emma is really good at the moment; in fact, she didn't lose any games in her first two matches at this tournament. Her result against Malene Stripp in the QF was also very impressive (Emma's first win vs Stripp, if I'm not mistaken). Emma is 14 years old, Malene 18, and Mai Grage 20.

Re: The Danes are coming - Danish juniors thread

Danish Junior Championships, outdoors 2012, will begin Monday 9th of July (qualies beginning today).

Preview

U12
The two big favourites are Helena Francati and Rebekka Hillingsøe, both from Gentofte. Helena won the indoors title back in April when Rebekka didn't participate.

U14
Simone Alipieva would surely have won this, but she's not participating this year (playing Tennis Europe in France instead). Emilie Håkansson and Ida Krause are the favourites, with Håkansson as the most likely winner. They were doing surprisingly well at the European Team Championships a week ago. Helena Steenberg is a likely semifinalist, while Sofie Bjerringgaard could be Ida's opponent in the QF (what a clash: Sofie beat Ida at the junior championships a year ago!).

U16
Martine Ditlev is missing (ITF in Germany), but all the others are here: Emma Rønholt, Julie Noe, Emilie Francati & Ulrikke Høyer. These four girls are seeded 1-4 so the SF's should be Emma Rønholt vs Ulrikke Høyer, and Emilie Francati vs Julie Noe according to the draw. Emma is on fire at the moment and is seeded #1! But these girls can all beat eachother on a good day, so it'll be interesting. Francati won the indoor championship in April, beating Noe in the final. Kathrine Berge is a dark horse in Ulrikke's quarter. She and Ulrikke played a close match in Kronborg Open a few days ago (Ulrikke won 64 64).

U18
Melsted is a huge favourite. Malene Stripp will probably be runner up. Anna Signe Rasmussen is not on the entry list for unknown reasons.

The Championships will be held at HIK (Hellerup). They've made a facebook page for the event. HIK also arranged the outoor Championships in 2010 & 2008, and are usually very good at uploading photos from the matches and ceremonies.

Re: The Danes are coming - Danish juniors thread

The U16 girls played 1st round of the Junior Championships yesterday. Initially the scorecard showed Julie Noe as the loser, and I was like "What"? But the score has been corrected, so basically everything went as expected. Francati, Rønholt, Høyer, and Noe lost 0, 1, 2, and 3 games respectively.

The U16 girls play 2nd round Wednesday, while U12, U14, and U18 begin their 1st round today.

Re: The Danes are coming - Danish juniors thread

Allianz Kundler German Juniors, ITF G1

1R
Martine Ditlev d. (wc) Grace Maleka Mpassy-Nzoumba (GER) 0-1 ret.

It's quite rare to see Danish girls in a Grade 1 tournament (Melsted has played a few, and Grage before her). It's possible to earn a lot of points because it's a G1 tournament. The 1st round win actually earns Martine more points than any other tournament she has played the last 12 months! It's not the way you want to win your points, of course, by a retirement from your opponent, but this rally shows how luck, fate or coincidence can have a say: Martine wouldn't have earned any points if the opponent withdrew before the match, but since a game was played Martine earns 20 points. Weird. Hope the opponent is OK, btw.

It will of course be difficult to go very far here, but GL anyway! Martine also plays doubles - with Helene Scholsen (BEL). GL again!

Re: The Danes are coming - Danish juniors thread

Martine lost 2nd round to Lana Slavica (CRO) 7-5 6-7(3) 6-3.

Such a close match! Martine lost doubles too (1st round). Too bad.

Re: The Danes are coming - Danish juniors thread

Danish Junior Championships 2012, outdoors

Semifinals

U12
(1) Helena Francati def. (3) Sofia Samavati 7-5 6-0
(4) Hannah Viller Møller def. (7) Olga Helmi 1-6 7-6(5) 6-1

U14
(1) Ida Emilie Krause def. (4) Sidsel Dahl Pehrson 6-2 4-6 7-6(3)
(2) Emilie Håkansson def. (3) Helena Steenberg 6-1 6-1

U16
(1) Emma Rønholt def. (4) Ulrikke Høyer 4-6 6-2 6-2
(2) Julie Noe def. (3) Emilie Francati 5-7 6-3 7-6(5)

U18
(1) Cecilie Melsted def. (5) Emilie Elsvad 4-6 7-6(3) 6-3
(2) Malene Stripp def. (7) Sofia Helgstrand 6-3 7-5

Worth to note:

* So many girls came back from a set down.

* Only seeded players in the SF's (and mainly those seeded 1-4).

* The only surprise so far was probably in U12: (2) Rebekka Hillingsøe lost to (7) Olga Helmi in QF (not a huge upset, Olga is good).

* Four girls still have a chance to win three titles, as they've reached the finals in all three events (singles, doubles, and mixed). They are: Helena Francati (U12), Ida Krause (U14), Cecilie Melsted (U18), and Malene Stripp (U18).

* Some girls can win their first Championship singles title (outdoors or indoors):
Hannah Viller Møller, Ida Emilie Krause, Emilie Håkansson, Emma Rønholt, Julie Noe, Malene Stripp. So there will definetely be a new champion in U14 and U16!

Lots of photos on facebook.
