Wouldn't it be better for him to lose early rather than raise your hopes about him winning another slam? It's almost been a year and I'm still not over that 5-2 lead he blew in the first set in last years final.

I just consider that sort of thing was more or less typical of their matchup.
He needs the points to keep alive the small chance of getting #1 later in the year. Plus I really don't want him to lose to a freaking lucky loser. It'd be really embarassing for his grand slam quarterfinal streak to ense that way.

Whew. Fed holds for 6-4 4th set at 40-30 from 0-30. The grand slam quarterfinal streak stays alive.

You're certainly English enough to offer insight here;are you at all familiar with the song at the 8:40 mark("England!England!England!...")of the video in post #3949??

I can't say I have heard the song outside of J&W, but I can't discount the posibility it exists either. I would assume it's a sartirical reference to both English peotry and a popular patriotic football chant.

Thanks for the input ---Two things compelled me more than others.(1)The impassioned rendition of the elderly Mr.Simpson character;and (2)The dorky way the country's name is entoned three consecutive times. It almost inspires one to think up equivalents: 'GREENLAND!GREENLAND!GREENLAND!...Come and visit us--PLEASE!!We're DESPERATELY LONELY up here!'

Just saw this, I'm touched that my absence was noticed
I was in France where my cellphone provider has notoriously bad coverage so accessing the forum wasn't an option, the French "motel" we stayed in never heard of WiFi either
Just in case you`ll worry again, I'll be gone for the full race week next week (so Burisleif can rejoice ) But since she's not playing next week it's not much of a problem for me, I'll be too stressed with work to think about tennis anyways

Re: On the Concept of Irony w/ Continual Reference to Caro, the #1 Sunshine Queen
I know we have a few people, who like 'coincidences' in draws and numbers.
Here's one really for the record books:
Exactly 23 years after the Tiananmen Square massacre, which took place on June 4, 1989, the Shanghai Composite Index Monday opened trading at 2364! .. & the index closed the day down 64.89 points Unsurprisingly, Chinese authorities have now banned internet searches for 'Shanghai Composite Index'
This beats drawing Serena Williams 3 times in a row

I don't know, even if he somehow wins this what is he going to have left in the next round? Stick a fork in the old man, he is done.
