In order to be eligible, player needs to represent her country four years in a row (1913-1916).

Re: New eligibility rule for 2016 Olympics
I dont think It's a good idea, If someone injury 3 or 6 month and cant find her form, so their chance to play Fed cup is small, so no chance for Olympic

Re: New eligibility rule for 2016 Olympics
This only confirms Olympics are WTA's sidekick and nothing more. Imagine if you couldn't enter a GS if you haven't played the four before them

Re: New eligibility rule for 2016 Olympics
No wonder Maria was mad about about it.
This is a stupid rule. Sometimes the Fed Cup is so badly placed in the schedule that it really messes up the player's schedule. Like so many players got injured in Stuttgart after playing Fed Cup.

Re: New eligibility rule for 2016 Olympics
Wow, that's an absolutely absurd rule, and one that really could screw over some great players in the future!!
Imagine if the rule had been used for the 2012 games.. Maria would have been ineligible to play this Summer, because she missed both of Russia's 2009 ties whilst recovering from her shoulder problems. How is that in the least bit fair?
Plus, that rule really is unfair on young players. To use a hypothetical situation, let's imagine one of todays young Russian girls (let's use Khromacheva as an example) went on a fantastic run in 2015 and ended up winning a slam and became the number one? Does she not get to play in 2016 because her ranking was nowhere near high enough for entry for the 2013 Fed Cup matches? That's absolutely ridiculous...

Re: New eligibility rule for 2016 Olympics
This rule is rediculous and makes no sense. It needs to be changed.

Re: New eligibility rule for 2016 Olympics
Hate the new rule Maria is apperently mad about it and I guess some other players are too. There are some players that can't play olympics because of current rules, imagine how things will be with new rule Olympics will be a mess
