Re: Maria's ranking breakdown in detail (and other random stats)
strange to see Maria still at no. 2. She inched closer to Azarenka for the no 1. spot but I don't know if I really want her there. It's not exactly good for tennis tbh.

Re: Maria's ranking breakdown in detail (and other random stats)
Maria edges closer to Vika in pts by over 300 pts, while edging further from Kvitova by over 200 pts by winning her 4th career claycourt title
4 more weeks until she hits 300 weeks spent in the top 10 btw!
forgot to mention her career win % is now >80% again

Re: Maria's ranking breakdown in detail (and other random stats)
Does a win in Stuttgart decrease Aga's chances of No.2 over the coming weeks or is it still pretty much inevitable

Re: Maria's ranking breakdown in detail (and other random stats)
so if Masha indeed takes Madrid seriously and reaches the final again/wins it, what will that do to her prospects of becoming #1?

As of now:
Azarenka, 9020
Maria, 8280
Azarenka will have 700 coming out in Madrid and Maria 140:
Azarenka,8320
Maria, 8140
Maria will be No. 1 if she reaches Madrid SF and Azarenka reaches QF. She will also claim No. 1 if she beats Azarenka in the final.
However, Maria's No. 1 ranking may be short lived because she has 900 points to defend the next week in Rome.

Well, Azarenka has 225 points from Rome too, so anything is really possible. I really want Maria to become world number one
Petra will also fight in Madrid to keep her 3rd spot... But yeah, Maria has a great shot for the Nr.1 spot and if she does not tank Madrid, she's able to win it if she keeps playing the way she did in Stuttgart.

Re: Maria's ranking breakdown in detail (and other random stats)
Is it a bit twisted of me to want Maria at #2? I don't want her to be #1, I think it's because I was always used at Henin being the de facto #1 and Maria the de facto #2 for so long, with the WS wreaking havoc in the rankings here and there.

It's not just you! I definitely don't get why some pova fans being obsessed with the #1 ranking
Plus, playing tournaments, especially slams, with the #1 ranking/ #1 seeding is not an easy task at all.
With the william sisters looming at slams, it definitely is not a good thing at all

Plus she's never really dealt well with the pressure of being no.1. And I can just see GM tards going crazy with their ''True no.1, my ass '' troll comments once she loses.

These. I don't want her getting the #1 spot til she gets another Slam (and I don't think she will either tbh, because Azarenka is too consistent to lose early and I definitely don't see Maria doing a Madrid/Rome double).

Re: Maria's ranking breakdown in detail (and other random stats)
Exactly...She has played 3 slams as the #1 seed. Apart from her nice run at USO 2005 before losing to Kim in 3 sets, she used to struggle even the opening rounds: 2007 AO first round and 2008 RG first round, almost two points away from bombing out
Her ranking at this point is fine. I am sure she doesn't even give one fuck about it...What matters right now is wins and slams
