Quite possibly. Dr Heiner Gillmeister sent me several first names of early German players, including that one, so I'm sure they're very reliable. I'd go for Klara over Clara. Beutter could well be her married name.

Re: Official Tournament Winners by Event

The London Championships

In 1881, a lawn tennis tournament was inaugurated at the London Athletic Club in Stamford Bridge; a top-class women's singles event was first held there in 1884, when the final was played over the best of five sets for the one and only time. A modest women's singles event had been held at this tournament in 1881, when the winner required only five games to win a set; there was no women's singles event at this tournament in 1882 and 1883.

In 1885, the tournament acquired the name of the London Championships. Five years later, in 1890, it was moved to a permanent venue at the Queen's Club in Kensington, London. The surface was always grass.

In 1887, a Challenge Round was instituted in the women's singles event. An asterisk (*) indicates that the holder was not defending her title, so the last match in the year in question was, in fact, an All-Comers' Final. The Challenge Round was definitively abolished in 1904.

In 1905, the London Championships tournament acquired a fixed position in the lawn tennis calendar when it was held in June, just before the Wimbledon tournament. Before 1905, the tournament had mainly been held in July, soon after Wimbledon.

In 1973, women's events were held at the London Championships for the last time. From 1974 to 1976, no tournament was held at the Queen's Club, but men's events resumed there in 1977. They are still held there today, starting two weeks before Wimbledon.

Re: Official Tournament Winners by Event

From Lance Tingay's "The Guinness book of tennis" (edition 1983) I insert the roll of honour of "British Covered Court Championships" , also interesting because shows as from 1926 to 1938 this tournament swapped date with "London Covered Court Championships" and was held in october instead of march (as is possible verify on our yearly threads).
After WWII it continued to be played in autumn until 1958, when began playing again in february or march. From 1963 in autumn again.

held at least up to 1976-I have the result in the 1976 thread. The later winners were often from communist nations. Egypt was friendly to the Eastern bloc. It must have been viwed as a safe nation to send players to in order to get international experience without the fear of defecting.
Thank you Rollo, I have added it, increased with other years.

According to our yearly threads, in 1937 '39 '46 '50 '52 '53 '55 the name "Egypt International Championships" was assigned to the Alexandria's tournament. I have used the winners of Cairo's tournament (and therefore in 1939 the winner was Josephine Harman), but it's need consider this thing and check it again.

I have corrected these your results:
1950 Gussy Moran d Louise Brough 6-3 6-4
1951 Shirley Fry
with these:
1950 Gussy Moran d. Annalies Ullstein Bossi 6-2 6-3
1951 Shirley Fry d. Louise Brough 6-3 6-4

Nadi Amir el Said Al Riadi is the name taken by Gezira Sporting Club in 1952. (but now it seems have the old name)
http://196.219.237.70/gsc/gsc/ClubHistory.aspx

I have added the Alexandria International Championships too.

Hamburg, Germany

Originally held in Hittfeld, to the south of Hamburg, this tournament was moved to Hamburg itself in 1987, when it was held in September. After some early changes, in 1989 its position in the calendar became fixed at the end of April/beginning of May. The tournament was not held in the three years 1984-86. From the late 1980s until 2002, this tournament was one of the main women's clay court tournaments in the run-up to the French Open.

This Hamburg tournament was always held outdoors, on clay. In later years the permanent venue was the Rothenbaum Club. However, this tournament had a rather short life, being discontinued after 2002.

Re: Official Tournament Winners by Event

The Pacific Coast Championships, California, USA

A detailed introduction to and results from women's singles event at the Pacific Coast Championships in the years 1890-1914 can be found here:
http://www.tennisforum.com/showthrea...+championships

An asterisk (*) after a result indicates that the holder did not defend her title in the year in question; the last singles match would then have been an All-Comers' Final.

As with so many other tournaments, the advent of open tennis in 1968 sounded the death knell for the Pacific Coast Championships, which was discontinued in 1972.
