No... b/c what if Ana retire like Justine

Also any medal guarantee Ana comeback to #1 at August 11 list, whatever JJ doing (including gold).

BTW Dexter (answer me like Moderator) is any chance that bottom part of this post with Overall stats about Serbian#1 race be new Opening Post of this thread?

I know that this thread is probably created for confrontation between fans groups, but because Ana and Jelena is 3rd year in the row so close on WTA list (like TOP20 in 2005 and 2006, like TOP10 and TOP5 in 2007 and like #1 now) with time become thread with useful informations because (almost) every month Serbian#2 have some chance to overtake Serbian#1 and swith positions.

AMAZING BELGRADE MIRACLE: In just three years (2008-2011) 5 different players born in same city reach world #1 in rankings and several GS titles and finals (WTA singles: Ana Ivanovic and Jelena Jankovic, ATP singles: Novak Djokovic, ATP doubles: Nenad Zimonjic and Daniel Nestor... with notable performances of Bojana Jovanovski, Janko Tipsarevic and Viktor Troicki which is also all three born in Belgrade)

Re: Fight for Serbian #1

Of course, I can edit Joana's post putting your stats. I'd like to ask if she minds, but give that she hasn't been around for ages this is not possible.

OK this is good compromise. I will update this overall stats again this year after YEC/08 so you change that again

Possible August 18 WTA#1 list:
Ana with OG gold _______ 3964
Ana with OG silver ______ 3856
Ana with OG bronze _____ 3786

Jelena with OG gold ___ 3778
Ana with OG SF ________ 3746
Ana with OG QF ________ 3701

Jelena with OG silver __ 3670
Ana with OG 3R ________ 3659
Ana with OG 2R ________ 3639
Ana with OG 1R ________ 3612

Ana with OG w/o _____ 3611

.
Jelena finaly reach today worlds#1 (which means Serbian#1 also, of course) and became 18th WTA #1 ever in the history. But because next week will be cut-off points from her Toronto/07 final she must reach Beijing Olympics final to stay at #1 another week. Good news for both Serbians (in terms of rankings) is early Kuznetsova OG lose and after she will lose her New Haven/07 wins and USO/07 finals points, she is not anymore treat, and same thing for other Russian Sharapova which will not compete b/c injury in next two-three months, so only real problem for Ana and JJ TOP2 places is theirs own ijuries and Serena Williams which after Ana withdraws have open draw for Beijing final and dont have many points to defend from 2007 at all.

Here is US Open check-point:

R3-3562 R4-3612 QF-3722 SF-3922, F-4172 , W-4472 - Ana IVANOVIC
R3-3355 , R4-3405 , QF-3515 , SF-3715 F-3965 , W-4265 - Jelena JANKOVIC
R3-3181 , R4-3231 , QF-3341 , SF-3541 , F-3791 , W-4091 - Serena WILLIAMS
R3-3070 , R4-3120 , QF-3230 , SF-3430 , F-3680 , W-3980 - Elena DEMENTIEVA
R3-2997 , R4-3047 , QF-3157 , SF-3357 , F-3607 , W-3907 - Dinara SAFINA

Before seasons last slam Ivanovic have clean advantage in points, but after "perfect" draw Jankovic chances is actualy good to overtake her again.

Before seasons last slam Ivanovic have clean advantage in points, but after "perfect" draw Jankovic chances is actualy good to overtake her again.
To back again at Serbian #1 Jelena Jankovic needs just to beat today Sybile Bammer (lead 6-1 in h2h) in USO QF. If she reach final (against Dementieva probably) she have good chances to stay at #1 for long time.
Bad things is that if Jelena not reach USO final since next week Serbian#1 will not means Worlds#1 in same time, and if JJ reach final, but lose - she will be WTA#1 if USO Winner is not Serena.

Re: Fight for Serbian #1

Serbian #1 race is probably over for next atleast 100 days b/c difference is too big for Ana to overtake Jelena in next 5 weeks and than we have november/december 2 months pause. Right now things already not seems good for Ana in whole 1st half of 2009 because she must to defend AO final and IW and RG titles... so right now is much more interesting Jelena Jankovic fight for worlds #1 with Serena (and Safina), but like we seen in past this Serbian#1 race is always very close with some unexpected scenarios.

Re: Fight for Serbian #1

In next about 200 days chances of Ana to overtake Jelena exist only in theory, but still it's useful to see before every GS how things looks about rankings.

COMPLETE POINTS BREAKDOWN for AO/09 TOP8 Seeds:
(under ---- line: no chance for #1)

10300 VV - Jelena Jankovic

Jelena #1 spot is in danger if she not reach AO/09 final - Serena, Elena or Dinara will overtake her, but only with title if JJ reach SF.

Like defending 2008 finalist Ana is without chances to improve her current #5 position, and if Ana not reach final at this AO/09, Venus and Zvonareva will overtake her with just QF round!

Re: Fight for Serbian #1

On Monday, April 2, when points of PM Miami 2012 will be added - for the first time after September 8 of 2008 (186 weeks) - Ana Ivanovic will overtake Jelena Jankovic on WTA ranking list and become once again best ranked Serbian WTA player.

Of course - only if we not count Andrea Petkovic

Re: Fight for Serbian #1

If wins Charleston final tomorrow, Jelena Jankivic will not only reach TOP8 spot in current 2013 RACE, but also she will back on position of best ranked WTA player from Serbia after exactly 12 months! Hers opponent in the final is XXI best WTA player and current WTA#1 Serena Williams, so its very probably will not happen tomorrow, but this thread anyway deserved to be re-bumped because it will be very interesting during whole red clay season where both will start with almost equal points from past (in terms of results Ivanovic have pathetic 2012 clay season, but JJ even much worse, so both defending small number of points next two months).

Re: Fight for Serbian #1

After 66 weeks of Ana Ivanovic leadership, Jelena Jankovic overtake her this week. Difference right now is less than 200 points, but Jankovic chances to stay some longer period as best ranked player from Serbia is actually bigger than it seems now because till end of 2013 she have to defend less than 500 points, unlike Ivanovic which must to defend over 1000 (in 2013 YEC race difference is over 600 points in JJ favor)!

Re: Fight for Serbian #1

Faster than expected, after just 5 weeks, Ana Ivanovic will be back to hers status of best ranked Serbian player in Monday, august 12th!
But difference is just 10 points, so already next week in Cincinnati Jankovic have realistic opportunity for SRB#1 comeback, and her chances for that is much better into first week after USO, where Ana defending 500 pts from QF last year. JJ have about 500 points more than Ana in 2013 race, but Ana is in arguable better shape, so everything is still possible in upcoming monts in this race.
