Shahar Cheering Thread 2012

In response to Young Gunner it might be appropriate to have a general thread to cover the entire year. Just watched Shahar lose to Michelle Larcher de Brito in Fed Cup and must admit that she really has developed some major inconsistency problems in recent months.

Shahar is on her way to Paris. Anybody think that she will get by the first round?

No way, she is losing in straights! Solomon is a terrible coach, she might as well switch back to Craig Cardon , she had decent results when she had him. Her current game which is based much more on defense than offense is not suited to her natural abilities as she is a terrible defender of her backhand corner.

Cardon line of offense with some glimpses at the net was the most suiting for her game and abilities. She will be out of top 50 in 2 months time.

Excellent prediction. Although I don't think there is any coach out there, that is going to change the path on which Shahar is headed.

Well, I always believe that a person can change, Shahar has the game to be top 20 when she utilizes all her relative advantages but she doesn't have the brain to realize that interpersonal relationship are just as important as work etiquette. She should just ask any of her devoted fans what she can do to improve and they will tell her that she played her best when she was attacking and she should look for a coach that is offence-related and she should stick with him at list 2 full years(which will be her all-time record for "coach maintenance" ) But she is too stubborn to listen, so until she does she won't get close to top 30 starting from Miami.

Re: Shahar Cheering Thread 2012

This is getting really bad. She's needs help quickly before she plummets in the rankings and isn't able to get into this bigger tournaments without a direct ranking.

Re: Shahar Cheering Thread 2012

As a Shahar fan, I know that the best thing for her would be to drop out of the top 100. When that happens maybe she would realise that something is wrong and finally switch to a new coach. I believe that her game needs to be Cibulkova like. And I don't get it, why would she change her tactics if her best seasons (2006, 2007 and 2010) were played with an offensive kind of play.
I watched her play against Li Na in 2010 and she was just so much better then she is now. She needs to change something, soon. Otherwise she can forget about the olympics.

Re: Shahar Cheering Thread 2012

Cibulkova like? That's just not in her abilities to keep smacking the fuzz the off the ball. I don't know why you keep bringing up Dominika like she can all the sudden completely retool her game to that of a ballbasher.

Dropping out of the top 100 won't help her at all. Are you a lunatic?

Retool? Did you see her against Sveta and Serena in 2007?
She needs to wake up and understand that her relationship with her coach does NOT help her game. And you need to start being realistic - she lost to De Brito, Baltacha, Wozniak, Dellqcua and Glushko this year and she keeps thinking she's still a top player which isn't true obviously.
So yeah, maybe dropping out of the top 100 or even just the 50 would help her. Obviously if she doesn't change anything in her game it's not that far from happening (saying goodbye to the top 50).

Yes I do, I'm not saying doesn't need to change her coach, I agree this guy isn't helping. I also agree that she needs to try to be more aggressive but her changing her game into just whacking the ball like Cibulkova does is a stupid plan. Her defense was one of her weapons and she used her craftiness on court. I honestly can't imagine her hitting multiple big strikes in a row, especially off the FH side.

Falling out of the top 50 may help but not top 100. Top 100 and she'll be screwed on getting into most tournaments. She doesn't need to get false hope on the ITF tour, she needs to be playing in MD's and work on beating the mid ranked players before she can start challenging the top players again.

Even if you put everything in bold and capital letters, even if you add a million exclamation points, it won't change the fact that Shahar in my view is beyond help at this point. She doesn't really care about the game anymore.
When she was trying to succeed it was appropriate to speculate the way you do and think what could help her improve etc.
Now the train has left the station, and this kind of discussion is not relevant anymore.
You can be her fan all you want, but the truth is she's not a player anymore. And in a couple of years, if she continues in this path, she will retire.

I think she needs to stop playing the bigger tournaments and go to international ones to gain confidence and wins under her belt. Maybe that would help :P

I totally agree with the above sentiment. She might be more interested in dating an Olympics athlete(according to certain rumors) than being one.

Finally, a first round match in Doha, where Shahar is the favorite(??).

She plays Nadia Lalami who has ranking somewhere in the 300's.
