Re: Aussie Open '12 | Pova, Pova, Pova, OI OI OI!
Thanks Miloti. I too would like to thank you all, its been my first Slam here. And I was so worried when my sis moved to uni I'd never really be able to talk to anyone about tennis often again.
And then I found TF, the bitchiness, the laughs and the support for Maria have been unbelievable. You guys have got me more pumped for each match but kept me calmer at the same time. To think if I didn't have this I would've had to get through this day by myself. So I am really thanking you all.
Our Bitch done good. At least we're making the second week consistently.

I wasn't that upset with this loss, yes she was decimated, but she never played anything worthy to trouble GOATarenka. If the match had been close and she had blown it herself, I would have been more crushed.
Anyway, she probably can't be any worse than this, so there is only going up from 3-6, 0-6.

Simply put, Vika is Maria's new Serena. Her Kryptonite, basically. It appears that, like Serena, Vika will be the one player that she just can't figure out for the rest of her career. I'm not saying that Maria will never beat her ever again... but I'm thinking when all is said and done, the head-to-head between the two of them will be largely in Vika's favor.
That said... congratulations to Vika. This match was very painful to watch, but I'm happy that Vika finally broke through and won a Slam. It's frustrating that another opportunity has slipped away for Maria, but she will most certainly bounce right back. I'm disappointed right now, but it won't last long. Maria will get right back on her horse and get ready for a big March at Indian Wells and Miami. I still believe that 2012 will be an awesome year for Maria... I'm looking forward to every bit of it.
Let me also mention that once again, Maria was extremely graceful in defeat. This was way worse than the Wimbledon loss last summer, yet she still managed to smile and be very classy during her speech. What a role model. It's no wonder why we all love her so much.

Serve needs to reach higher standards otherwise it's not gonna be enough, she needs a big serve to end some points quickly. ROS she is good at this but today I don't know what was the reason but she just wouldn't hit a big return off Vika's second serve, too scared to miss or sth. Anyway she was shitty and not only in ROS.

So I stopped watching at 5-0 in the second set. Depressing but I'll get over it.
I decided my "I'm not the next anyone" Nike shirt is bad luck. Whenever I wear it she loses.

Yeah yeah, maria is simply benefiting from old hags losing and choking their way before meeting with maria (aka) cakewalk. every time maria went deep in the draws like SF in RG, Finals in Wimbly and now AO, u whiners keep pointing out how her draw is this and that. we get it..now move on and get out of SS

The most encouraging thing is that Maria believes that she can continue to improve. She serves and moves much better than 2011 AO and I can't wait to watch more improvements in her next tournaments.

Re: Aussie Open '12 | Pova, Pova, Pova, OI OI OI!
Even though this loss still sucks, there are still lots of positives to take from this tournament. She got to the final, which exceeded probably all our expectations. She routinely beat all the players she was expected to beat easily (which she wasn't always doing last year). And her serve looks improved - yes, its still far from perfect but it certainly looks like she find more stability from it and apart from the 4R and SF, she never really hit many double faults in her matches.
So I'm actually really looking forward to what Maria can do this year. And for some reason, I think the clay season is gonna be really good for Maria. Don't know why but just have a gut feeling!

It's exciting that Maria will improve from her 2011 season; afterall, she finished 2011 as WTA's No. 4 ranked player.

In two weeks, Masha has gone from being a long shot to win the AO title to becoming the favorite to win then to never going to win a slam again. I love it.
