Re: 2011 Regionals
from LBSU website;
64 Joanna Smith/Nicole Smith (Arizona State) def. Anais Dallara/Karolina Rozenberg (Long Beach State) 8-6
64 Jamie Pawid (Hawaii) def. Sarah Cantlay (Long Beach State) 0-6, 6-4, 6-2 (It seems Pawid def. McRann)

QUOTE]
Dallara will be paired with Malenovska this spring. That score surprises though... better than expected.
Others of note:
Anna Jeczmionka (Long Beach State) def. Nigora Sirojiddinova (Cal State Northridge) 6-4, 6-1 ... that is good news for LB
Rachel Manasse (Long Beach State) def. Sierra Ellison (San Diego State) 6-3, 4-6, 6-2
Dropping a set was a surprise.
Karolina Rozenberg (Long Beach State) def. Sabrina Man-Son-Hing (Cal State Northridge) 6-4, 7-5
Ale Granillo (Pepperdine) def. Karolina Rozenberg (Long Beach State) 4-6, 6-3, 6-4
Rozenberg getting better quick .. surprise to take Pepp's # 3/4 to three sets.
Julie Luzar (Long Beach State) def. Maja Sujica (San Diego) 7-5, 6-1
Natalia Lozano (UC Santa Barbara) def. Julie Luzar (Long Beach State) 6-3, 3-6, 6-3
More good news for LB... Lozano is UCSB's # 1... she lost but was competitive in a match one would have expected to be less so.

Re: 2011 Regionals
CONTINUING A RANT ABOUT POLITICS, RANKINGS AND SEEDINGS FROM ALL AMERICAN
Kristina Smith, UCI beats # 6 seed Carling Seguso, UCLA 6-3, 6-2
Let me start: Kristina Smith is a very good little player who will be top 2 for UCI....
But let's review:
- Seguso was UCLA's # 8 last year
- Seguso did not have a national or even a regional ranking last year
Yet the ITA Committee of Coaches
- Ranked her in the 70's ahead of a lot of worthy other players
- She was thus seeded at All American PQ and lost first round badly
- She was thus seeded at SW Regionals and lost first round convincingly
- Seguso is now winless in the fall
1) Why doesn't the ITA just continue the computer rankings perpetually, taking graduated players out but leaving their results, and elminate is politically stupid coaches popularity ranking?
2) Why does the UCLA # 8 get ranked UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE?
Good lord
