Re: Elise Tamaela knocked out and put on a drip by opponent's father
So she defends her father, I don't know why but I get the feeling that he's actually nice with her

Re: Elise Tamaela knocked out and put on a drip by opponent's father
Karen Barbat probably can't afford to start a life on her own, so she has to defend her father whatever actually happened in order to keep her standard of living. She's trying to put the Dutch camp and Tamaela in as bad position as she possibly can in her father's defence. I don't buy it though.

Re: Elise Tamaela knocked out and put on a drip by opponent's father
There were some posters who actually felt sorry for Karen, do you still feel that way?
BTW, this is NOT the first incident this father has been involved in

Well, d'uh Obviously her father was not completely unprovoqued and she probably tells the story as it is. Dutch fans are definitely loud which has been seen at Aranxta Rus' matches. No matter what Mihai shouldn't have hit Elise, though. It's a horrible thing to do.
Karen is not to blame and I don't see how anyone can hate her or anything now. I don't think people realize how difficult it is to just push your father out of your life, even though he treats you badly. Families usually always stand up for each other and we wouldn't know the personal consequences for Karen if she chose to tell her father to get out of her life.

They were drunk Can't imagine Dutch fans cheering like that at a 25K for a match of Harmsen
Anyway, i'm not buying this story of Barbat and her father. So many witnesses confirmed that Tamaela etc. were actually really quiet and were clapping for good points. They are probably just trying to save his ass

Yes, Karen cannot be blamed for the incident.
Where she can be lamed is attempting to justify what her father did.
Yes families always stand up for each other, but there are limits.
Apparently this is not the first time the father has been involved incidents at tennis venues.
If her daughter keeps supporting him just because it is the family thing to do, she'll end up like Dokic.
She should have been more contrite and show compassion for Tamaela

She did. After the incident she was crying and said to Elise and others that she thought it was awful what happened.

OK. I take my statement back.
But trying to justify or excuse her father's outrageous behavior is still reprehensible

Apparently he was listening in on that conversation. Maybe she had to say that since he could overhear?

Re: Elise Tamaela knocked out and put on a drip by opponent's father
Things are getting ridiculous now. Mihai Barbat was just on the news in Denmark telling his side of the story:
According to Mihai Barbat, he called the Dutch spectators "bad chickens" because of them cheering Karen's mistakes which he viewed as disrespectful. They misconstrued this as a racist slur ("black chick"). Then Tamaela went up to him, yelling "Do you want to fight?" and hit him. As a reflex, he put up his hands to protect his face and must have accidentally hit her with his elbow, knocking her out in the process.
To me, it sounds like bullshit, but there you have it. Discuss.

Can't imagine Elise coming up to him and challenging him to fight
And then he "accidently" hit her unconscious which results in Elise having a concussion. And even though it was an "accident" he still felt the need to flee and leave the country
Also witnesses said they were just cheering for Dani's winners and weren't disrespecful towards Karen at all. I mean it's just a 1st round of a 25k. Not like there was a whole bunch of Dutch supporters cheering.
