Re: Julia Glushko

Another unsuccessful try in Estoril: Q1 - Lee-Waters d. Glushko 6-4 2-6 7-5
Julia had 10 aces but 12 double faults!
This was a good draw, at least for the opener, and she didn't take advantage of it. LLW is well past her prime, and no wonder she got destroyed by Yakimova in the next round (I suspect Julia wouldn't have fared much better).

I don't think clay suits Julia's game very well, but you can't blame her for not trying...
Well, soon there will be a break from Internationals and it'll be back to 50Ks for her.

Re: Julia Glushko

Despite recent losses Julia improved her ranking a little bit and reached her highest ranking yet: #185
But she will soon dramatically decline in her rankings if she doesn't gather some wins, because she stands to lose quite a lot of points at the end of May and the beginning of June.

Re: Julia Glushko

RG Qualifying Draw:

Eva Birnerova CZE (12) v Vitalia Diatchenko RUS
Noppawan Lertcheewakarn THA v Karolina Pliskova CZE
Silvia Soler-Espinosa ESP v Julia Glushko ISR
Elitsa Kostova BUL v Kai-Chen Chang TPE (24)

Soler-Espinosa again
In all honesty this is about the best draw that she could possibly get. Peak Julia, the one we saw in Eilat 3 months ago, might have made the MD with this draw.
But current Julia won just 1 of her last 6 matches, so just repeating the AO qualies feat of passing a round, against the same player no less, is a must.
She's on in about 4 hours.

Re: Julia Glushko

Julia lost 4-6 6-3 1-6
It's not looking good at all atm. She needs to get back down to some smaller tournaments (25K?) and pick up some points and confidence.

I kind of disagree. Julia is 21 years old and unless she is independently wealthy, she needs to find out sooner rather than later, that she can earn a living playing professional tennis. Playing in 25K events may get her some victories, but will not move her up to the WTA tour. I don't know what the cut-off is but a player ranked 185 in the world can not possible earn enough to even cover her travel-related expenses. Perhaps she has adopted the attitude that if she can not compete within the top 200 over the next year, that she may have to reevaluate what she needs to pursue.

Re: Julia Glushko

I was talking about a month worth of smaller tournaments, not a full season of these like last year...
Then again maybe it's just a clay-season slump that will soon pass.
She has beaten a good number of top 200 players over the past year.

Re: Julia Glushko

And another try, this time she has to win ONE match in order to get to her first WTA tour MD.
Only in the lone 56-draw International of the tour, Birmingham, could she be seeded 6th in qualies and have a bye.
She'll play one slam wonder, former top 20 player and TF favorite Alexandra Stevenson for a place in the main draw.

There's still hope that when she and Shahar will see a hard court, they will remember what to do on it

There's a livestream for Julia's QF match in Pozoblanco. I'm watching her QF match and it's 1 set all and Julia leads 5-2 in the third set.
