Thanks for your explanation, Meelis. Now I understand what TBE intended to say. However, I'm still afraid that your interpretation does not agree with the actual WTA rules. Please read the relevant regulation from the 2011 Rulebook (Chapter XIV, Section 2/A/b/i):

i. New Top 20 Player

As a new Top 20 Player participates in Premier 5 Tournaments, after she participates in her first Premier 5 Tournament, her best Premier 5 Tournament within the 52 week cycle must count on her rankings. After she participates in a second Premier 5 Tournament, her (2) best Premier 5 Tournaments within the 52 week cycle must count on her ranking.

This provision implies, quite unambigously IMO, that a new Top 20 player must already have one P5 tournament (her best P5 result obtained within last 52 weeks) included in her "best 16" tally - on condition she played in Dubai this year. And, if she plays in Rome this week too, she will have to count two P5 results on her ranking, starting Monday May 16th.

If you still believe that your interpretation is correct, please name the provision from the Rulebook that justifies it.

Like you said, if she played in Dubai and will play in Rome too.

BTW i just notice that couple months ago GM sticky thread with link to this Ranks Update Thread is changed on very useless way. Instead just one link on page 1 here, there is several post by post links where user once opening New Tab (or Window) can't navigate forward from there anywhere.

Maria Sharapova qualified for Bali 2010 ("International Tournament of Champions") but withdraw. According to WTA Rules (p 162) participation is mandatory for all qualified players. As a consequence, I am under the impression that this tournament counts as "0" and Masha's total should be 4,255 points.

Just for Your information that GM sticky thread is there since march of 2007 (far before You become member of this forum) on my own initiative! There is some software bag because thread like this is possible only in this "Challenger Tournaments" part of forum, so I ask of forum administration (with big support of many other forum members) to make at least sticky thread on Top of GM subforum because this TBE Ranks Update thread deserve to be marked as WTAWorld's (TennisForum now) most important and useful thread. Also that was very helpful for new members and site guests to be informed that thread like this exist, because for random tennis fan ITF circuit is not so attractive and barely visiting this forum section.

So I really don't need Your lessons... (about anything)
