Re: Big West - 2010 key matches
1. Depends how the next doctor's visit goes. Only time will tell.
2. If Hammel is back I suspect she won't be playing against Widjaja who could possibly leapfrog over Hammel for the NCAA singles bid with a head to head win.
3. Yes.
4. The best scenario for UCI is where Cal Poly knocks off LBS.
But I've already proclaimed Long Beach St. an at-large so you have nothing to worry about Form.
4/17/10
#55 Arizona upsets #54 Sac. St. 4-3
#39 St. Mary's def. #58 Cal Poly 4-3
- Cal Poly wins the 1st set at #1 and #4 singles but ends up losing both in 3 sets.
#67 UCI def. UC Davis 4-3
- The power of UC Davis' Picnic Day was worth at least 2 points for the aggies.
Pacific def. Santa Clara 6-1
- I would put Bisharat against Widjaja just in case she has to retire.
#44 Boise St. def. Fresno St. 4-3
#49 Nebraska upsets #34 Texas A&M 5-2
- Like I said LBS has nothing to worry about.

I recall Issara played in the CSUN Fall Tournament.
Form do you know what the penalty is for playing in a Fall tournament while ineligible?

#61 Cal Poly def. Fresno St. 4-3
1. Pola/Kucerkova (FS) def. #32 Blalock/Matzenauer (CP), 8-3
3. Cal Poly won by forfeit
1. #95 Renata Kucerkova (FS) def. #100 Suzie Matzenauer (CP), 7-6, 3-6, 6-2
2. Laura Pola (FS) def. Brittany Blalock (CP), 6-2, 5-7, 7-5
6. Cal Poly wins by forfeit
#72 Nevada def. Pacific 4-3
1. #82 Jenifer Widjaja def. #105 Maria Mizyuk 6-1,6-1
- Where is Kateryna Nezhura who took UCI's Kristina Smith to 3 sets?
- Pacific probably would of won with Nezhura. The Pacific coach always seems to come up short against ranked teams that are beatable.
#44 Pepperdine def. #62 San Diego 4-0

Re: Big West - 2010 key matches
4/29/10
#67 San Diego St. upsets #73 BYU 4-2
#64 TCU def. Wyoming 4-3
Hypothetical scenario. If TCU wins the Mountain West their ranking can improve greatly.
1st computer cycle - TCU's ranking can jump up 10-15+ spots.
2nd cycle - TCU's jump will pull up SDSU
3rd cycle - SDSU's increase will pull up LBS and UCI
4th cycle - UCI's increase will pull up the points for LBS
But that 3rd and 4th cycle will not happen. They should spin the computer 5 times not just 2 at the end of the season. But we're dealing with the ITA here and not mathematicians.

Re: Big West - 2010 key matches
If I was the other coaches I would protest the UCI's move to insert an injured player just to slide a few down. Really sounds like a desperate move by their coach since this year was suppose to be their year. Maybe I am just a little bias since gouci has played the "holier than thou" role on this board concerning other programs. Anyway, looking forward to some good tennis tomorrow and hopefully another LBSU championship on Sunday.

GOOD that the tigers are PISSED! It shows that they can get pissed about something. Maybe if Pacific would have gotten pissed at #72 Nevada then they would have played Nezhura and actually have defeated a ranked team for once.
And have the Gauchos gotten spoiled? Do they now expect to play a UCI team missing starters every time out.
UCSB should have nothing to be pissed about after the way they were gift wrapped the #2 seed.
As for Stephanie Hammel what a warrior.
She was out there able to complete even when not at 100%.
Pacific's Julia Hansen can be really good when she's on like today. In dual matches Hansen has defeated 4 star Erin Wiesener 6-1,6-0 and San Francisco's #3 singles 6-1,6-0. So Hammel fared better against Hansen than some other healthy players have.

Re: Big West - 2010 key matches
Boy Form were you wrong big time about San Diego St. when you thought they would be unranked at season's end.
Look what's happened since you left SDSU for dead.
upset #73 TCU - check
upset #66 San Diego - check
beat #73 BYU - check
upset #40 Utah - check

Re: Big West - 2010 key matches
Boy that Long Beach St. head coach is LOUD! Even someone watching the UCI match couldn't help but hear the LBS coach yelling at the chair umpire.
It's fine to disagree with the umpire and debate it calmly and another thing to create a scene with an outburst. Last season the 49er head coach caused a scene with her outburst at her own player Julie Luzar. This time she caused a scene with her outburst at the chair umpire.
