My question is... Will she be able to get a spot in the semis if she wins both of her matches? That is, does the format let her be a semi-finalist as an alternate? I remember that in the mens masters they would not let you to get out of the group if you are an alternate... Thanks!

Do they really have that rule in the mens' one?  . I'm pretty sure that if Vera wins both her matches she goes into the semis. But she has to win both.

I don't really care about get through to the SF or not ?
I just want to see how she plays with top players nowaday , she hasn't met a top 10 player for many months I think
