she's still 9th, more than 100 points behind Caro. But Vika has a 1-pointer and a 2-pointer counting towards her ranking, so any win will add to her ranking - in both Cincinnati and Toronto. I am not at home so I don't have my ranking tables, but Caro has 120 or something like that as her 16th best result, so she needs to reach something like QF to gain ranking points, so as long as Vika does well, she has a great chance of going above Caro.

US Open is a week later this yr
so last years New Haven pts will come off (which Wozniacki won) so thats gonna help Vika
she really needs to have 2 good weeks by herself and not rely on those 550 pts coming off.

She could do with Caro not winning New Haven again this year too where she's the only current top 10 player taking part, but yeah she has that no.8 spot in her own hands if she can just have 2 good tournaments to replace those two 1 pointers she is carrying at the moment. She can't really afford any pre QF losses though.

Dementieva must beat Caro so that she doesn't gain too many more points than Vika before 550 come off Caro's total in a couple of weeks.

She just needs to make sure the gap isn't more than 550 between her and Caro before Caro's New Haven points come off the week before the USO and she'l be fine. Still could do with at least a QF or better though in Toronto.
