Re: Israeli hopes for the future?
I've seen Aliev when she played in Israel and I thought that she got some great shots, her backhand is superb (a sing for good Israeli tennis player: Shahar, Dudi, Anna and Amos had one of those great backhand). But she is so inconsistent in the match, I saw her play this Austrian (I think) and she was dedicating the whole match and it still somehow went to 3 tough sets.

Re: Israeli hopes for the future?
Tourney in Israel this week($10,000 ITF Marjorie Sherman Womens Cup) at Ra'anana should give a good indication if there are any hopes for the future. There are 20 Israeli girls in the main draw and most are are not even ranked. Anybody going to the tourney to file some scouting reports?

Re: Israeli hopes for the future?
I['m not gpoing, but the fact that there are 20 israelis in the MD, most of them without a rank that means it's a weakass tourny

Re: Israeli hopes for the future?
I would be curious to see if Liat Zimmermann will be competitive in her 2nd round match with Julia Glushko.

Re: Israeli hopes for the future?
IMO one of the problems of all the girls is the inconsistency of level of play.
Only participation in a big number of tourneys can pull them to really improve.
Too bad that the Israeli Teunis federation instead of increasing # of tournies are doing exactly the opposite.

Re: Israeli hopes for the future?
Two unexpected Israeli names in the quarter-finals at Ra'anana this week:
Olga Blank
Orian Ben Haim
Anybody know anything about these players?

Re: Israeli hopes for the future?
I think I've seen both play before, wasn't that impressed, but I'm sure they have improved since.
Who else is in the quarters?

With the exception of the qualies (only 1 round), it wasn't significantly different than any other 10K.

No surprises here... She is the only one with a future in tennis of her generation. Well, maybe Chen Astrugo can make some progress as well, but only after about 5 more tournament conclusions about her could be drawn.
It was a positive to see 3-4 others beat some guests.
