It's not sarcasm 
I remember on GM someone wrote they don't have any woman players and such,
so I was genuinly surprised to see them here and I do wish them all the best.
I'm sure most Syrians don't get to decide who their leaders are
and what descisions these leaders make.
That's probably even more true for women.

NZ Fed Cup team leave for Bangkok
25/01/2008 5:21:51 p.m.
The NZ team head to Bangkok today (Friday) for the 2008 Asia/Oceania Fed Cup Qualifying Competition in Bangkok. The NZ team consisting of Marina Erakovic, Sacha Jones, Leanne Baker and Ellen Barry are lead by Captain David Lewis.
The NZ team have four days preparation before the competition starts. New Zealand are in Zone 1 along with Australia, Chinese Taipei, Indonesia, Thailand, Uzbekistan, India and Hong Kong China.
The eight teams will be drawn into two Round Robin pools of four teams. The round robin will be played from Wednesday (30th Jan) through to Friday and on Saturday the winners of each pool will play-off against each other to determine which one nation will be promoted to the World Group Playoffs in 2009.
The draw will be done on Tuesday night in Bangkok.

Wow, strong field. Taiwan's Chan/Chaung could come in handy. Hseih is playing better then Chan at the moment.
Australia looks to be a favorite as well.
