It seems like Ayu Fani Damayanti has secured a WC spot for MD in both tournaments. She lost in the semifinal of the Surabaya. :bounce:

The other 2 spots will get a WC in Qualifying Draw and the contenders are Sandy Gulmua, Liza Andriyani and Nudnida Luangnam.

Nudnida lost in the quarterfinal of Surabaya and RU in Thailand, while Liza didn't play in Thailand but still in the final of Surabaya. Sandy lost in the quarter of Thailand but in the final of Surabaya.

If Liza wins, Liza gets the WC and Sandy and Nudnida will have the same points, and thus, they will count the total sets played. I'm not sure about how they will count them.

If Sandy wins, Sandy and Nudnida will get the WC.

Some news during the Thailand pre-qualifying in Thailand.

The Nation, Aug 5, 2004
Meanwhile in Bangkok, top local junior Pichitttra Thongdach stormed into the second round of the first leg of the South East Asian PreQualifying Circuit at Ramkhamhaeng University yesterday.

Junior world No 25 Pichittra routed former national player Marissa Niroj 62 60 to join compatriot and top seed Napaporn Tongsalee, who received a first round bye, in the second round.

The world No 329 is set to play Indonesian Ayu Fani Damayanti, who thrashed local player Nuntiporn Ditsirporn 60 60. Another Thai teenager, Nudnida Luangnam, also moved on by defeating Jirathiti Naudom.

Top seed Napaporn Tongsalee crashed out in the second round of the WTA South East Asian Pre-Qualifying Tennis Circuit event, losing haplessly to Indonesian Ayu Fani Damayanti 6-3 6-0 at the Ramkhamhaeng University courts yesterday.

The Thai, who won the tournament last year and received a wild card into the WTA Volvo Women’s Open, had a fever and did not pose much of a challenge, which saw her lose tamely in the most surprising result of the day.

In Bangkok, three Thais yesterday paraded into the semi-final of the WTA South East Asian Pre-Qualifying Tennis Circuit at Ramkhamhaeng University.

Orawan Lamangthong produced the biggest upset of the day, beating second-seeded Sandy Gumulya of Indonesia 7-5 4-6 6-4 in the quarter-finals.

Compatriots Nudnida Luangnam and Pichittra Thongdach also advanced, with Nudnida blanking Khanita Sritawan 6-0 6-0 and Pichittra upending third-seeded Septi Mende of Indonesia 6-3 6-3.

The other semi-final was taken out by Ayu Fani Damayanti, who won an all-Indonesian clash against 1997 SEA Games gold medallist Sawondari Wukirasih 6-4 1-6 6-1.

Meanwhile in Bangkok, local teenager Nudnida Luangnam and Indonesian Ayu Fani Damayanti will square off this morning in the final of the WTA South East Asian Pre-Qualifying Tennis Circuit at Ramkhamhaeng University.

Yesterday, Nudnida downed countrywoman Orawan Lamangthong 6-2 2-6 6-3 in the semi-finals while Damayanti benefited by a string of unforced errors from Thailand’s top junior Pichittra Thongdach to win the match 4-6 6-2 6-4. The Indonesian was leading 5-1 in the final set before the Thai girl managed to rally back to 4-5.

However Pichittra’s nerves finally gave in and she netted a backhander to surrender the match.

Meanwhile in Bangkok, Indonesian Ayu Fani Damayanti stopped local hope Nudnida Luangnam to dominate the first leg of the WTA South East Asian Pre-Qualifying Circuit event at Ramkhamhaeng University yesterday.

Damayanti, the conqueror of top seed Napaporn Tongsalee, came from a set down to beat the Thai teenager 4-6 6-2 6-3 in the final. She picked up $1,000 and 25 accumulating points, while the Thai received $500 and 17 points.

The second leg will start on September 18 in Bali, Indonesia. A player with the best results from the two legs will earn a wild card into September’s WTA Wismilak Open in Indonesia and February’s Volvo Women’s Open in Pattaya.

Seemingly all the Thais players flied to India instead of playing this event.
The tournament director should analysis " what's exactly reason why only one Thai players played Bali pre-qualifying." One thing IMO is they should consider pre-qualifying schedule to avoid the clash against ITF tournament.

BTW, congrtas to Ayu, Sandy and June.
