Beatrice Capra won her first ITF title last week at the 10k in Williamsburg without dropping a set. There was a feature on tennisrecruiting.net that explained she was going to be trying her luck on the pro tour before making decisions about college. She is in the top 20 on the ITF juniors rankings and made the QF of the Junior US Open. Thought she deserved a place of her own for cheering, news, etc.
Beatrice is blogging for usta.com from the Orange Bowl.
Sunday, Dec. 6
Hey everyone!
I'm Beatrice Capra blogging from my favorite tournament of the year... the Orange Bowl in Miami! I was so excited to finally get to Crandon Park today! The hour car ride from Boca seemed just as long as some of the competitors coming from Eddie Herr, but I finally made it.
When I got to the site, I met up with my doubles partner, Courtney Dolehide, with a running start followed by a huge hug because I haven't seen her in so long. We went to Coral Gables and had a good 2 hour practice and then went back to the site to check in. It was good to see everyone at check in ... and I found out the player party was at 6, so I was really pumped.
After check in, Alex Cercone and I went to a different park so I could have my second practice. It was hard to concentrate when there was a fiesta right next to the courts blasting music like "YMCA" and the "Hokey Pokey." I'm pretty sure we spent more time trying to get down the right moves than actually practicing. But overall we got a good solid hour in.
After practice, we went back to the hotel for the player party. It was a lot of fun. I was looking foward to it all day. I actually skipped out on my parents' 22nd anniversary dinner to go to it, but I'm sure they made it without me. The player party was awesome! Not only was the music 10 times better than last year, but we also got iPod speakers, and I was badminton champion of the night in Wii.
I'm still waiting for the schedule to come out, so if I play tomorrow, I'll let you guys know what happens!
