Re: Three Hands #19 - Istanbul (Daily Stats)

There are at least 3 different solutions:

Solution 1:
You get one ball from each bag.
1. Balls from bag 1 to 5 go to the left arm of the scale, 6 to 10 to the right. (lets assume that 1 to 5 is lighter than 6 to 10).
2. Ball 1 and 2 goes to the left, 3 and 4 goes to the right. If equal then ball 5 is the solution. (If not then lets assume that ball 1 & 2 is lighter)
3. Ball 1 to the left ball 2 to the right. Lighter is the solution.

Three Hands #19 - Istanbul
- Year End Championships

Newsflash: Buitenzorg has secured 2013 Year End #1

As we enter Istanbul, Buitenzorg leads tina110 by ~659 points and has safely secured the Year End #1 because there are no perfect hands awarded for round robin matches (so it's impossible to get that many points). Therefore, Buitenzorg is officially off the radar and will claim the remaining weeks as #1 :oh:

Congratulations!

Brainstorm

YEC Interview said:
If there are 10 bags worth of tennis balls (each bag has more than 100 of them) and one of the bags contained fake tennis balls that weighs 0.1 lb less than others. How many times do you need to weigh to figure out which bag contains the fake tennis balls?
The correct answer for this question is: 1.

I will post the reasons before the end of this tournament ;)

Did you get it right? :oh:

There's 30 minutes left for you to submit your picks.

Re: Three Hands #19 - Istanbul (First Update After RR!)

Three Hands YEC Interview - Heinann

- So, can you tell us a little bit about yourself, like your name, where you from (since TF flags are not great indicators), are you a he or she, how long have you been on TF and anything related you would like to share...?

My name is Rafał (so I'm a male) and I'm from Poland. I joined TF in April last year but I started posting in June 2012.

- Do you feel winning a grand slam is more important or become a year end #1 in professional tennis? Do you have the same feelings when the same question translate into playing games on TF?

Both are important but there are many flukes. In TF i would definetly prefer to win a grand slam.

- What were your goals in playing Three Hands? Did you achieve them?

I didn't have goals in Three Hands, but I won Wimbledon, so I can say I achieved them .

- Who do you think will win the YEC? How good are your chances?

Hopefully me :oh:. But everyone has equally chances in my opinion.

- Can you tell us a little bit about your playing style or ways to approach Three Hands when you manage your picks? Like which hands are more important to others or what players to pick or not to pick in a tournament... etc...?

I always pick in hand 1 the player who I think will win the tournament. In hand 2 finalist and one of semifinalists etc.

- Do you play tennis in real life? If you do, can you tell us about your playing style? ...such as which hand do you use, what kind of surface do you like the most... etc... If you don't play tennis, what outdoor activities do you do?

No, I don't play tennis.

- What do you enjoy the most on TF and why? Some people may prefer to know their favorite players' schedule from spiceboy, some like to read TBE's real time rankings, some like the games, some simply just want to read the drama on general messages...

On TF I like the most games and some GM threads (NA-MUG :bigcry:) and of course spiceboy's entry lists and TBE's ranking. I enjoy a lot of things on TF.

- If there are 10 bags worth of tennis balls (each bag has more than 100 of them) and one of the bags contained fake tennis balls that weighs 0.1 lb less than others. How many times do you need to weigh to figure out which bag contains the fake tennis balls?

2?

- Who are your favorite tennis players? Have you seen them in actions live at a tournament? If you did, did you prefer to watch the match live inside the stadium, over television or through online streaming?

JJ, Rena, Venus, Sara and Roby. I have never been in a tennis tournament .

- Are there any recommendations you would like to give to Three Hands? ...or any comments on the changes for the game next year (maybe how you feel doubles being allowed to be picked)?

Game is good, but points distribution should be more clear.

Thank you for participating.

Three Hands YEC Interview - goOudinUSA

- So, can you tell us a little bit about yourself, like your name, where you from (more than just USA), are you a he or she, how long have you been on TF and anything related you would like to share...?

Hi! My name is Douglas but I go by Doug. I like in a small town in Georgia, USA, about an hour northwest of Atlanta.

- We know you love Melanie so much from your nickname. Can you share with us why you like/love/support her? Have you met her in real life or go to a tournament to support her? If you did, did you manage to get a sig from her?

Yes, I love Melanie!! She has been my favorite player for years. Through tough patches and the good! She is such a nice person with a great personality. Too me she is a great tennis player! She also is from a town not far from where I live. I have not actually met Mel and got an autograph, but I have seen her play in person. It was possibly the best day of my life.

- You were one of the few players who have achieved perfect hands before there was a rule change (at Doha). How difficult was it to pick the correct 6 players from the draw? Do you think it's easier to achieve perfect hands at bigger tournaments with famous players playing or smaller ones with uncertainties?

I was very surprised I got one! I think part of it has to do with luck. You don't really know how to tournament is going to play out, so you just really have to go off instinct. Tournaments with more famous players, I think, are easier to pick.

- What were your goals in playing Three Hands? ...and who do you think will win this tournament at Istanbul?

My goal was to win!! :p and I hope I win the tournament, but anyone has a chance! It'll be fun to see how it plays out.

- What's your favorite game on TF and why? It does not have to be Three Hands.

I love Three Hands, but I have to go with Tennis Tipping. TT is such a fun game. It take predicting matches to a whole new level. It is also a great way to make friends (and enemies)! :p

- Can you tell us a little bit about your playing style or ways to approach Three Hands when you manage your picks? Like which hands are more important to others or what players to pick or not to pick in a tournament... etc...?

All three hands are very valuable to winning, but I think Hand 1 has the biggest impact. With the x3 multiplier, Hand 1 usually gives the most points.

- Do you play tennis in real life? If you do, can you tell us what are your preferences? ...such as which hand do you use, what kind of surface do you like the most... etc... If you don't, what outdoor activities do you do?

I don't play in a league or with a team, but I like to play with friends and family. I love hitting a one-handed backhand (though it needs work :oh:)! I'm right handed and hard court is my favorite surface. I also enjoy hiking and playing American football and basketball.

- What do you enjoy the most on TF and why? Some people may prefer to know their favorite players' schedule from spiceboy, some like to read TBE's real time rankings, some like the games, some simply just want to read the drama on general messages...

I really enjoy all of it! ;) The games, the players forums, and the tournament forums are what most of my time consists of.

- If there are 10 bags worth of tennis balls (each bag has more than 100 of them) and one of the bags contained fake tennis balls that weighs 0.1 lb less than others. How many times do you need to weigh to figure out which bag contains the fake tennis balls?

Oh gosh. Probably about 100. :oh:

- Are there any recommendations you would like to give to Three Hands? ...or any comments on the changes for the game next year (maybe how you feel doubles being allowed to be picked)?

Three Hands is a great game! I'm so happy I joined! The changes already made for 2014 look great. Doubles may be an interesting element to the game. Doubles can sometimes be unpredictable, so it would be a fun addition!

- Thank you for participating.

Thank you for the interview and running the event!!

Re: Three Hands #19 - Istanbul (Buitenzorg leads after RR!)

Three Hands YEC Interview - Monzanator

- So, can you tell us a little bit about yourself, like your name, where you from (since TF flag can be changed), are you a he or she, how long have you been on TF and anything related you would like to share...?

I'm from Poland like my flag suggests. My name is too hard to pronounce for 96% of TF but let's just say the English version is the same as in case of ex-ATP player Rusedski :)

- What were your goals in playing Three Hands? What kind of thoughts went through your mind when you play a new games?

I had no goals when I started playing the game. Everything comes as a bonus but Three Hands was the last of the new games I joined.

- I believe you made it to the final 8 by winning the US Open title at Flushing Meadows. Were that part of your expectations?

I never won a Grand Slam event in any of the games I played so capturing US Open in Three Hands was my first time. And I never expected that since I consider GS events a TF jinx of mine.

- Can you tell us a little bit about your playing style or ways to approach Three Hands when you manage your picks? Like which hands are more important to others or what players to pick or not to pick in a tournament... etc...?

I used to pick the seemingly best players for Hand 3 but noticed that most people don't risk so much and pick them for Hand 2 more frequently instead. I usually follow that path now as well.

- Do you play tennis in real life? If you do, can you tell us what are your preferences? ...such as which hand do you use, what kind of surface do you like the most... etc... If you don't, what outdoor activities do you do?

I played on a clay court located near my home when I was younger. Now I'm just an arm-chair player!

- Who do you think will win in Istanbul and how are you preparing yourself? Are you gunning for the second title this year?

I consider myself as an outsider and pick Meelis to win the Year-End title.

- What are the reason you play games on tennis forums? Playing while reading for the drama? Support the players... etc?

It's all about good fun and I appreciate any clever ideas from the people responsible for any new game. Three Hands is one of the smartest games on TF.

- If there are 10 bags worth of tennis balls (each bag has more than 100 of them) and one of the bags contained fake tennis balls that weighs 0.1 lb less than others. How many times do you need to weigh to figure out which bag contains the fake tennis balls?

Any number from 2 to 9 depending when I pick the fake balls bag. I could tell which ones are fake immediately after picking them.

- Are there any recommendations you would like to give to Three Hands? ...or any comments on the changes for the game next year (maybe how you feel doubles being allowed to be picked)?

I don't recommend any changes since that's one thing I don't like about any game on TF! Too much bickering kills the spirit.

Let me know if I got the fake balls question right but I think I did ;)

- Thank you for participating!
