iPhone jailbreaking (and all cell phone unlocking) made legal

Owners of iPhones and other smartphones are one step closer towards taking complete control of their gadgets, thanks to a new government ruling Monday on the practice of "jailbreaking."

This weekend has seen a flurry of activity about digital rights, but the biggest news dropped Monday morning, when the FCC announced that it had made the controversial practice of “jailbreaking” your iPhone — or any other cell phone — legal.

Jailbreaking — the practice of unlocking a phone (and particularly an iPhone) so it can be used on another network and/or run other applications than those approved by Apple — has technically been illegal for years. Most jailbroken phones are used on the U.S. T-Mobile network or on overseas carriers, or are used to run applications that Apple refuses to sell, such as Safari ad-blocking apps, alternate keyboard layouts, or programs that change the interface to the iPhone's SMS system and the way its icons are laid out.

While technically illegal, no one has been sued or prosecuted for the practice. (Apple does seriously frown on the practice, and jailbreaking your phone will still void your warranty.) It’s estimated that more than a million iPhone owners have jailbroken their handsets.

Apple fought hard against the legalization, arguing that jailbreaking was a form of copyright violation. The FCC disagreed, saying that jailbreaking merely enhanced the inter-operability of the phone, and was thus legitimate under fair-use rules.

The upshot is that now anyone can jailbreak or otherwise unlock any cell phone without fear of legal penalties, whether you want to install unsupported applications or switch to another cellular carrier. Cell phone companies are of course still free to make it difficult for you to do this — and your warranty will probably still be voided if you do — but at least you won’t be fined or imprisoned if you jailbreak a handset.

I see the gerls in GM have been QUICK to jump on the Azarenka bandwagon to have a reason to hate the good sis Maria

#1,924 ·
And they compare Maria with Azarenka and then talk about how dsanders is crazy for comparing Maria to Venus (which he is but the gap between Maria and Venus in slams and titles is about the same as the gap between Maria and Azarenka )

Natural Joe isn't that bad, but he has his moments I guess.

That brand new pinhead JarkaFish though :weirdo:
You're right, Natural Joe isn't who I'm thinking of. I get him and the Shrieking Razor troll confused.

But yeah agreed on JarkaFish.

Why does Maria have the Azarenka stans so stressed, pressed and obsessed? :hysteric:

And I just can't at some of them pretending to stan for Serena in a desperate attempt to try and drag Maria when most of them were complaining about her part-timing, injury excuses and serving her way out of trouble only a few months ago :haha:

Just to make it clear. We are being mean for the sake of it, right. Its a love/hate relationship instead of being strictly hate-related?

I only did it for Mr. Heterosexual; he is special and I love to bug him. Who have you labelled with this vile nickname?
well, duh! Part of banter ;) I ain't that Caralenko2.0 to have love/hate relationship with you :oh:

Hmm. Most of my course is 1994-ers and the majority went to college as well. So I assume they finished high school at 16/17. Is it different in Ireland or I am just being stupid?
Well they could still be 1994-ers and be at Uni. You are at Uni right? Although they would have to be in their first year.

IDK bout the rest of the UK but we just don't use 'high school' or 'college' we just say secondary school most of the time, because I decided to do A-Levels I would say I'm still in 'high school'. I think that those who leave after GCSE's to do BTEC or founation degree qualifications are in what is officially called 'colleges' although we just called it 'the tech' here in NI which is what those on your course must have done. Maybe they use college over in England, we just don't really call it that over here.

I used to love Long Islands, but then I went out to dinner with my parents a few months back and then to a bar afterwards where I had 3 in a 30 minute time span. Worst hangover ever

Captain and Coke is probably my favorite drink, but as far as beer goes I'll take a Corona over just about anything.

so I tried some bicarb on it - made a paste and scrubbed for a while - the stainless steel definitely looks better, and when the spotlights on the cooker you can't even notice but its just when the lights are off you can see all faded bubbles on the surface

its kinda like this but not nearly as bad and no burnt/black bits

and it's only on one fireburner out of 4 (trust me it's the biggest one) but im sure she'll understand. i didn't even know the pan had overspilled until i'd cleaned up
