Russia continues to impress with 17 players in the Top 100 whereas they were 13 in May!
Maria is back to the lead of the russian nation. Maria reached the SF at Wimbledon falling to Top seed and eventual chanmpion Mauresmo. She won San Diego Tier I upsetting Top seed/n°2 Clijters and moreover, she won her 2nd Grand Slam title at the USO ousting Top seed/n°1 Mauresmo and 2nd seed/n°2 Henin Hardenne.
Good summer too for Svetlana who's back in the WR Top 5 after reaching the Final at the French Open losing to defending champion 5th seed/n°5 Henin Hardenne. At New Heaven she was SF ousting compatriot 3rd seed/n°5 Dementieva before falling once again vs 2nd seed/n°3 Henin Hardenne. At Bali last week, she kept the title for the 2nd year in a row beating 6th seed/n°26 Bartoli.
Dinara continues to rise in the WR and NR..once spot to the world Top 10. She reached her 1rst Grand Slam QF ousting 4th seed/n°4 Sharapova before losing to 8th seed/n°10 and eventual runner up Kuznetsova. She was runner up for the 1rst time in a grass tournement at Hertogenbosch falling to surprising n°55 Krajiceck. She also made her 2nd Grand Slam QF at the USO losing to Top seed/n°1 Mauresmo.
This is much better for Vera Znonareva who is back in the world Top 30. She won Birmingham Tier III upsetting 7th seed/n°31 Chakvetadze and 4th seed/n°14 Schiavone. At Cincinnati Tier III, she won her 2nd titls of the year with victories over 7th seed/n°32 Golovin, 5th seed/n°27 Jankovic and 4th seed/n°26 Srebotnik.
Anastassia Rodionova broke the top 100 with a 2nd round at Los Angeles Tier I as qualifer (victory over n°82 Czink) and a 3rd round at the USO (ousting 29th seed/n+33 Zheng.
Vasilisa also broke the Top 100: qualified for the Wimbledon main draw, 2nd rd as qualifer at Cincinnati Tier III (victory over n°94 Sromova), 2nd rd as qualifer at Stanford Tier II (victories over n°61 Laine, n°42 Mirza), 2nd rd as qualifer at San Diego Tier I, and qualified for the USO main draw.
Olga is the 3rd rd who entered the Top 100 and the best progression of the summer (+55 spots). Olga mixed up WTA and ITF tournements with a lot os good results: 2nd rd as qualifer at Birmingham Tier III (victory over n°97 Kutusova), winner at $25K Felixtowe, winner at $50K Bronx, qualified for the USO main draw and 1rst wta tour QF at Bali (1rst Top 20 victory over 4th seed/n°15 Ivanovic).
The out of form:
Vera Dushevina had a terrible summer with only 2 2nd rds (Roland Garros and Eastbourne).
