PYW - Tippmix Budapest Grand Prix

Welcome to the historical Hungarian city of Budapest! Budapest plays host to a Tier IV event on red clay this week. We will soon leave the red dirt behind and head to the States, where the highest ranked players already are. There are still some players out there who would love to score some points before displaying their skills on the hard courts in the US summer heat.

Quote:
PYW Ranking of the Remaining Qualifying Participants:

39. Claudine Schaul LUX
55. Marta Marrero ESP
86. Melinda Czink HUN
91. Lubomira Kurhajcova SVK

169. Martina Müller GER
172. Zsofia Gubacsi HUN
214. Emma Laine FIN

319. Virag Nemeth HUN

A total of three local players (that is three out of six who were in the draw) made it through to the final qualifying round - a great accomplishment. Melinda Czink's performance was to be expected, for she has been doing very well in qualifying rounds this year. Zsofia Gubacsi's wins were not that big a surprise either, for Gubacsi had a good run in the ITF event of Pétange, reaching the semi final. Virag Nemeth, #319 on the PYW ranking, did surprisingly well though, beating Lucie Hradecka and Yvonne Meusburger.

The question is whether this trio of Hungarians will prevail in this round as well. Gubacsi meets Luxembourg #1 Claudine Schaul, who is in a slump but is looking to break out of it here.
Czink meets the only Finnish PYW player, Emma Laine, and is the clear favourite in that match.
Nemeth on the other hand is the clear underdog in her match against Top 100 player Lubomira Kurhajcova.

The remaining match is top seed and PYW #55 Marta Marrero against Germany's Martina Müller. Müller has been doing well on the red dirt and Marrero has been a bit disappointing, losing 2-6 0-6 to Lucie Safarova as a lucky loser in Palermo last week. The betting odds still favour Marrero though.

There's plenty to write about these matches, but it is the votes that count. So start voting now for who you want to qualify for the main draw!

Final Qualifying Round:

Marta Marrero ESP [1] v. Martina Müller GER
Claudine Schaul LUX v. Zsofia Gubacsi HUN
Melinda Czink HUN [3] v. Emma Laine FIN [6]
Lubomira Kurhajcova SVK v. Virag Nemeth HUN
