Of course Eleni decided to not play at the last moment for the third straight year. At least she tweeted good luck to the team
. So for the third straight year, we only have three girls on the team
. It's pathetic that with all the players we have, we are in this position of Group III. Obviously the crisis forced some girls to quit (Georgatou) but still we have 10 WTA ranked players and another 5 or so who should be ranked very soon. No other country in Group III has anywhere near as many players as us, not even Estonia (although they have better quality with Kaia and Annett).
Shocked that Despina skipped. She's never missed Fed Cup since she first played in 2010. What's even more strange is that she's entered the 15K Tallinn next week. So she's going to Tallinn for the 15K and not for Fed Cup? Grammatikopoulou has never played before. Sakkari and Stefanou have played before but are both winless in Fed Cup. We haven't even won a tie since we beat Denmark (with Woz when she was #1
) in 2011
Anyways we beat Cyprus 3-0
Grammatikopoulou d. Omirou 6/0 6/0
Sakkari d. Siopacha 6/2 7/5
Grammatikopoulou/Stefanou d. Patsali/Tsaggaridou 6/2 6/4
vs. Moldova on Friday for a spot in the promotion playoffs
Also great for Valentini to win to rubbers in her Fed Cup debut
And Maria (1-9) and Agni (1-3) got their first Fed Cup wins
Daniilidou. Venus. Azarenka. Halep. Wickmayer.
Cornet. Ivanovic. Vesnina.. Vaidisova. Krajicek.
Paszek. Begu. Cirstea. Lisicki. Pavlyuchenkova.
Pironkova. Stephens. Tatishvili. McHale. Flipkens.
Grammatikopoulou ~ Papamichail ~ Sakkari
I'm obsessed with the Greek players. Deal with it.
