Out-of-form Wimbledon champion Steffi Graf endured the rare insult of hearing a chanting crowd demand its money back at a $A247,220 women's tennis tournament in Hamburg.
The West German's usually lethal forehand missed the intended target so often that some of the 3,000 spectators began taunting her by shouting for a refund.
This is a backhanded compliment. Graf has become a tall poppy. It strengthens one's faith in human nature to know that we're not the only ones to cut them down to size.
