Thanks dos Santos.

I forgot that USO qualies have 16 qualifiers instead of the usual 12 (128 draw), and on top of that several players will use protected ranking.
So Julia would probably have had to beat Gibbs and win the final to make the MD outright, but that was definitely within her capabilities
Well, before she gets to the qualies there are still plenty of points to be defended elsewhere in the states.

I had heard about her melt-downs but I had never seen one before. Nicole Gibbs looks like a solid player and I could see her rising in the rankings over time.
Sure. She's not far off her friend Burdette who also put her career on hold for college, but it was clear that once she goes for a full-time tennis career she'll be top 100. Same for Gibbs, who played only 5 tournaments this year.
