Connors could turn out to be an excellent choice. He was a blood and guts warrior, just like Maria. Someone who would rather die than lose. His game was a bit Maria-like as well. He was one of (if not THE) best returner in the history of the game, had an excellent double handed backhand and a somewhat more vulnerable forehand. And in his prime he was a power hitter. He even was the original grunter, although he limited it to his serve. Maria Sharapova basically is Jimmy Connors without the gamesmanship.
