Re: Biographies of Female Tennis Players

MCALPINE, "Jackie" (Gladys Gwendolyn McAlpine)
United Kingdom
Born 07 November 1910
Died 29 Jun 1978 in Spring Hill, Compton Abdale / Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, England
Married Charles Phipps Brutton (1899-1964), in June of 1935 in Wrexham, Denbighshire. Divorced by 1943

Note her nickname was "Jackie",and not Jean, as formerly supposed. Daughter of Sir Alfred McAlpine of Marchwell Hall nearr Wrexham.

She played Wimbledon from 1932 to 1934

and she was the C.P. Brutton that played it from 1935 to 1939

Winner: Phyllis Court Tournament 1931

Charles Phipps Brutton (1899-1964), O.B.E , was wed 3 times. He married for the second time in 1943, indicating he and Jackie were divorced by that date.
Brutton was best known for playing cricket: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_Brutton.

Cricket may well have brought the couple together as her father had cricket connections:
