Yes, players like Ivanovic or Kerber or Errani and a few others can definitely push Maria to tough 3-setters and put a scare in her. But challenging and beating are two completely different things and I just don't see the other players having the mental fortitude to overcome what Serena and Maria are going to relentlessly throw at them on this surface. I haven't been overly impressed with anyone.

I know the prospect of having to see Maria play Serena over and over and over isn't a comfortable feeling. But it looks like that's the reality of the WTA right now. Will someone else step up over this next month? Strange and unexpected things happen all the time in sports....
Yes you are. It's the WTA and anything, literally anything can happen. Serena will have to play her best (mental) game if she wants to play the final which she hasn't done since 2002. And Maria is not a guaranteed finalist either. It's been 6/7 years since she last reached 3 GS Semifinals in a row. Obviously, there is a great chance it will happen at the French, but she will be under a lot of pressure defending her title and needs to play her best tennis as well.

The FO has been by far the weakest GS in the womens game since 2008, so I wouldn't be surprised at all if we had a Stosur-Errani final
