Regla Torres steps out after a hard fought 1st Round match
The Italian star barely won her match today as it went down to the wire 14-12 in the final set.
It was a dismal display by the former world No. 2 who double faulted 14 times and hit almost 59 unforced errors.
"It just wasn't my day," Torres said. But the relative inexperience of Emma Anderson and the steady nerves of Torres at the crucial stages of the final set saw her home.
2013 saw a stellar start to the year for Torres who won Brisbane without dropping a set including a win over the current world No. 1.
However, she has struggled since then. "I don't know. I think I just woke up on the wrong side of the bed. I just couldn't get any rhythm going and Emma was playing so well in the first set."
The second set saw Torres steady her game but in the final set her game fell apart again only to recover in the late stages of the third set.
She takes on tenth seeded Harper Johnson next.
