Re: Tennis Tipping #3 | Australian Open | Thursday OOP is out! Deadline: 11am!
Preview of tournament in singles - Third round (Thursday)
Things are definitely heating up in first grand slam tournament of the year.
It's a good tournament for unseeded players because only 7 seeded players survived first 2 rounds and it's not looking especially great for them after day 1 of third round.
I've chosen two matches from each half for the previews, so let's check what we have in store for tomorow :
chenhw (FIN) vs. FORZA SARITA (ITA) H2H = 1 : 0
chenhw, Astana 100K champion, ranked 91 versus FORZA SARITA, Auckland 2012 champion, ranked 65.
chenhw lost in 2nd round of Wimbledon and in third round of US Open so if he plans to keep going at least one step further he must be favorite to win here and advance for the first time in career beyond third round of GS.
They played in Miami 2012 and chenhw won rather easily so he hopes to do it one more time.
After first day nobody has the advantage so tomorow's matches will decide it all.
FORZA SARITA had very good start of 2012 season with winning in Auckland and then soon after Andrezieux-Boutheon 25K challenger so he has some points to defend.
Winning this match would make his situation much better as these were his first wins this year.
He has better ranking and lot more to lose.
We will see who is mentaly stronger and won't make some silly pick and lose the match, so far this is highest quality encounter!
chenhw already beat number 1 player in the world joe87 so questions is can he be stopped now or too much momentum is on his side.
Hindrance. (AUS) vs. Dementieva_Dude (CAN) H2H = 0 : 0
Hindrance., WTA Budapest finalist and winner of 2 challenger titles in 2012 (Antalya 10K & Kristinehamn 25K), ranked 69 against Dementieva_Dude, Copenhagen champion and quarterfinalist in Wimbledon and London Olympics, ranked 39.
Great tournament so far for Hindrance. in his home slam.
Taking out third seed Chris 84 was one of his best wins in career and big proof that he is in great form. However his draw is not getting any easier, he is now facing former champion in both singles and doubles, Dementieva_Dude.
Canadian easily won in first two rounds and finaly is having togher opposition in Hindrance. who is 1 SR up after first day.
Can Dementieva_Dude repeat 2007 and win in this mach and all the other ones till the end of tournament?
This will be their first meeting and at such a big stage too.
There's no question Hindrance. will have crowd support but Dementieva_Dude certainly won't be there without being respected as former champion.
(29) Frederik (USA) vs. Elzy Gano (CHN) H2H = 2 : 0
Frederik seeded 29, US Open, WTA Dallas semifinalist and finalist of WTA Luxembourg, ranked 30 against Elzy Gano ranked 61, WTA Washington finalist and semifinalist of WTA Luxembourg.
Frederik leads H2H 2-0 but after day 1 of third round he is one point and one SR behind Elzy Gano.
It's tough tournament for seeded players but Frederik did well to win two matches and get in this position, successfully defending last year's AO result.
In last GS, US Open, these players met in second round where Frederik won and eventualy lost in SF.
The other time they met was in SF of Luxembourg, so two very important matches where Elzy Gano lost.
Now he has excellent chance for revenge and proving that win over 4th seed Michael in second round was not a coincidence.
There are enough matches in OOP allowing any kind of scenario to happen.
Tomek. (POL) vs. (12) Extremaduratenis (ESP) H2H = 3 : 1
Tomek., WTA Dallas and Strasbourg semifinalist ranked 42 versus 12th seed Extremaduratenis, Indian Wells champion and WTA Acapulco finalist, ranked 13.
Tomek. did extremly well after day one and is ahead by 2 points and 2 SRs against former doubles champion here.
H2H is also in his favour with all 3 wins happening at WTA level and only defeat at challenger.
All this makes him clear favorite before tomorow's final day of third round.
However it's not all lost for Extremaduratenis, there are enough matches in OOP for things to change and for sure he will try his best to come back into match.
Like it's already been stated , being a seed is not easy here but things can change from day to day and upsets happen so it's important to pick the right one.
We'll see if Extremaduratenis will do just that.
Both players hope to reach round 16 again here which is their best singles AO result.
Matches start in less than 5 hours from now and players still alive feel more and more excitment.
Defending champion LCS looks good after day 1, as is home favorite 14th seed petey_pan.
3 qualifiers, winnermax, Soliloque and F4CU still with a chance to go further!
6th seed Nicolas will try to use his experience and turn around his match vs unexperienced Chilenaitor.
All of this is enough to know that another fun day/night is ahead of us.
Good luck to everyone and good picking!
