If his knees continue to be a problem maybe he should just play clay and grasscourt tournaments from now on and stay away from hardcourts. That's very drastic, but perhaps it's his only option. Of course the powers that be will want him to play all the mandatory events and the slams, but it could be a matter of accepting a part-time Nadal or no Nadal at all. The choice is theirs.
