Draw notes:

The NYT lists Haydon-Dusapt as 6-2 6-0 in R1.

Bryan=Laura Lou Kunnen
Darmon=married name of Reyes.
Hales=married name of Pat Ward
Lombard, M. The Grand Slam book lists her as Betty Lombard, but Dawson's indicates M Lombard. For now we will use Betty Lombard on the assumption the M stands for "Margaret".
Vukovich=married name of Carr.

Summary:

Koromozy's hopes of repeating her Italian win are dashed when she goes over on an ankle vs Egyptian Betsy Abbas. Abbas gets another retirement when Aussie Mary Hawton also turns her ankle 3 points into their 4th round match.

Darlene survived a scare when Lazzarino quit after becoming faint-the Italian was only one game from the match at 5-4. Then Hard dodged two match points vs. Schuurman in the quarters. In the semis Hard "surprised a capacity crowd of 14,000 with the easy manner in which she defeated Miss Bueno."

Yola nervously starts the final with a double fault to immediately hand the blond Californian a break. The tiny Mexican rallies to 4 all in the second to make it close but gets broken. With a powerful smash the 6th seeded Hard becomes a surprise winner.

#6 seed Darlene Hard survives a roller coaster ride to win the world's premier clay court event. No champion has ever had such a perilous journey with the exception of facing match points. Miss hard lost 3 sets and 66 games in her 6 matches-ironically her easist match was vs. World #1 Maria Bueno in the semis. She was only a game from defeat vs. Italian Lazzarion when Sylvana had to retire after becoming faint.

48 year old Maud Galtier, grandmother of two, beats Ruia Morrison serving underhanded....
