In 1971, both Billie Jean King and Rosie Casals defaulted the final at 6-6 in the first set after a refusal to remove a lineswoman with whom King in particular was displeased. This remains the only occurrence of a double default after both players had taken to the court. The tournament was doomed after this occurrence and eventually discontinued in 1974.
