Here's the performance of top women's singles seeds at the Australasian Championships / Australian Championships / Australian Open. The top seed has won the tournament 45 out of 84 attempts. Margaret Smith Court (1961, 1962, 1963, 1964, 1965, 1966, 1970, 1971, 1973) won this tournament the most times as the top seed (9). Martina Navratilova (1980, 1982, 1984, 1987) failed to win this tournament the most times as the top seed (4). Since the seeding system began, an unseeded player has won this event 2 times: Serena Williams (2007), Chris O'Neil (1978).
