This was the inaugural women’s singles event at Wimbledon; the complete draw is given here. There were no women's doubles or mixed doubles events until later years. Maud becomes the first Wimbledon ladies champion. The final is also unique for being between sisters, a situation that won't occur again until 2002 when the Williams sisters meet. Maude gets a silver flower basket as a trophy.
