Profiles

Margalita Chakhnashvili

Margalita Chakhnashvili is the Current Georgian #1. She is the Georgian Fedcup Leader for Several Years. She has Participated in 4 Grand Slams, US Open 2006(L to Brianti after having MP), AO 2007(L to Pavlyuchenkova), RG 2007(Beat Savransky but lost to Szavay) and Wimbledon 2007(L to Suarez). She has also Participated in one WTA MD, Tier IV Portoroz in 2006 where she entered as FU, thanks to her biggest title, 50K Martina Franca. She is about to play her 5th Grand Slam, at the US Open 2007.

Maka's Career Prize Money is just over 120K(120,976) from which 32K have been gained this year thanks to 3 GS Appearances, 25K Padova Title, 2nd Round Qualifying at Paris-Coubertin, Antwerp and Tier I Berlin, Losing to Petkovic 76(5) in third set after coming back from 25 and a MP only to trail a 52 Lead in the TB.

Maka has the Potential to reach top100, she just needs to Gain some Confidence and play more Consistently. Though I believe she doesnt lack Confidence in herself, since after Being in top250 in 2002, She dropped out of top600 two years later, only to come back in 2006 Having great results, such as : 75K Bordeaux Semifinal, 50K Martina Franca Championship, WTA Portoroz 2nd Round and 50K Milan Final.

Anna Tatishvili

Anna Tatishvili is a 17 Year Old Georgian Player. She is currently the Georgian #2 and has some stunning victories during her short career. She is Currently ranked #285, but She has reached #267 earlier this year. Since Anna Tatishvili trains at the Chris Evert Academy, she received WCs at some US Tournaments. The 1st came at Miami 2005, where she drew Arantxa Parra Santonja who wasnt in bad form and was Ranked #76, but Anna Bageled her in the 2nd set, but still lost 36 60 26. This was a Great experience for her. Next year she received a MD WC at Indian Wells, but she lost to Jamea Jackson of the USA in straight sets. Next week, she received a WC at Miami, and she drew #41 Sania Mirza, while everyone expected an easy win for Sania, Anna won the Match 76(8) 16 76(6). This was a very up and down Match, with Anna up 40 in the 3rd set suddenly finding herself down MPs, but she won the Match and got through to the 2nd Round, where she lost to #8 Elena Dementieva. A Week Later, Anna Reaches #570 from out of top1000, and Receives a WC at Charleston, Where she beat #81 Laura Pous-Tio 36 63 75 before losing to Natalie Dechy 75 64.

This Year, Anna got WCs at IW and Miami. At IW she lost to Meusburger in 3 sets while in Miami lost to Krajicek 63 76. She received a QWC at Charleston, but lost vs Czink 61 63.

After Qualifying for WTA Istanbul after winning two epic matches vs two Romanians, Cirstea and Buzarenscu, the score vs Buzarnescu being 76 57 76 in more than 3 hours. The next day, Anna was very tired so she lost to another Qualifier, Dzehalevic who had beaten the second Georgian, Sofia Shapatava in 2nd Round Qualies.

After this, Anna took a break and trained for a month. She came back at WTA Cincinatti, where she qualified for MD beating 8th seed Uberoi and former top20 Stevenson en Route. She drew Nakamura, a top60 player in 1st Round, Winning again in a 3rd set TB, this time 76(4). Then she played Lilia Osterloh, to who she lost 75 61 This was one of the biggest wasted chances. Anna isnt playing anywhere currently, but will come back soon.

Salome Devidze

Salome Devidze is the #3 Georgian Player. She is currently ranked in the 500s, but was almost in top250 two years ago. Anyone who watched Salome play could've easily seen how talented she was. She had wins over Katerina Bondarenko and tough losses vs players like Golovin. In Fall 2005-Spring 2006, Salome had a 10 match losing streak, which affected her very match. She has been struggling to regain form since then, losing to some players she'd easily double bagel a few years ago. My advice to Salome would be to take a break for a couple of years, study and come back strong. She could really play some good tennis later.
